Just got hit with a 30 day ban from using Facebook and Messenger.

Seems they are getting more and more strict about the sort of wry humour you can share.

Though whats baffling me, is I've posted the exact same pic/meme dozens of times to numerous friends over the last year and never had a problem.

Now it seems the bots have taken exception.

I'm all for civility, but if we ban anything and everything that somone "might" find offensive, fairly soon no one will be able to say anything

I've never had a Facebook account. Facebook does not meet the community guidelines of my life. They can't ban me, I've banned them!

Not sure if you are familiar with an old British comedy show called "It Aint Half Hot Mum". But there was a character called Sgt Major Williams, who was always berating the men under his command.

The top meme was the one I posted the other day which got me hit with the ban hammer.

The image underneath is one I have posted numerous times up till now without incident (didn't have my this pic on my tablet, so did a google search and the other pic was the one that came up first).

Apparently this is now considerd "hate speech"?

The person I posted this in response to was a friend of mine, he certainly wans't offended by it. If you saw what it was in response to, it was blatantly obvious this was intended as a joke. The fact that its a quote from a TV show I would have thought made that obvious, but it seems context is now completely irrelevant in their eyes.

It's not just me they're hitting either, several friends have had jokey posts and pics removed weeks after they were originally posted. They seem to be getting increasingly draconian.

I mean, it's definitely a line of it's era; and it is pretty homophobic.
Possibly not the best language to use in a public area where it could cause offense and invite complaint?
There's a reason It Ain't Half Hot Mum doesn't get the repeats that Dad's Army enjoys - As a show it relied a little too much on gay stereotyping and racist caricatures.

facebook is a social programming tool. they use people "rights" as a way to control you. havnt used it in 5 years. even Reddit has been ruined by pussies. use 4chan and say whatever the fuck you want.

I thought the racist angle was the main one, particularly having a white guy made up as the Indian.

To be fair I wouldn't have used those.

Loved the series when I was a kid, but it's the same as Jim Davidson, Bernard Manning etc.

It shouldn't have been okay back then. FB uses an algorithm for much of its 'policing' so those have probably been used elsewhere in less than lovely circumstances and now FB recognizes them automatically.

Facebook is changing things ahead of the next election cycle. They have an internal list of folks they want to ban/silence.

With Epstein gate going on they are having issues with their filters as the platform itself actually encourages exploitation so there is that angle as well.
