The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

have a prop that I want to spray chrome. I haven't had a lot of success with reflective paints in the past, due to excessive curing times.

I know a lot of people swear by Krylon, which is now available in the UK. I've tried the Platikote gold, and had the same curing/fingerprint issues.

Any good tips would be welcome for priming/application.

Finally, is it really worth the trouble? Does the chrome effect last? Would I be better going with aluminium then rub n buff?

Cheers.

I use duplicolor chrome, and it does wear off if excessively handled, but some light handling is OK.

I have been considering trying out some chrome plating, since now days they can plate any kind of material.

I used Alclad II on my T-800 arm. Recently someone thought it was made of metal, which pleased me :)

I got it from Hannants.

That Alclad II stuff looks REALLY good. Although in my experience even good chrome paints tarnish and dull to a metallic finish over months/years

Chrome is actual impossible to recreate with paint.

Another option is ... if you really want chrome CHROME ... get it sprayed with a conductive paint and have it chromium plated by a suitable place.

If you're going the paint route, Pauls T-800 arm does look the nuts in Alclad II!

Alclad deffo!

I am using Plasticote Chrome spray with laquer over the top- this dulls the chrome finish down, as I want my resin R2 parts to look like polished aluminium! (Irrelevant I know, but thought I would mention it anyway!)

I think that would be a definite NO!

I haven't tried brushing it, but the way it works is this:

Spray your item with gloss black
Spray light coats of Alclad II

I wouldn't like to see what it would look like being brushed on
