Working on a project set forty years from now that has the United States military pitted against a multi-national force of greater might - right now they're called UAA's (United Against America) - but it's way to on the nose... Thought of something like "New Dawn" but it felt a little cheeky. The enemy on Falling Skies is called "Espheni," Revolution "Monroe's Army," in Aliens: Colonial Marines, the Weyland Yutani Corporation troops are referred to "We-Yu" - something like that... Anyway, if anyone has anything cool and creative, love to hear it... Thanks in advance! |

The Brotherhood/Coalition/Empire/ Of True Emancipation ( i.e. from their point of view, America ended the slave trade with the Civil War, but proceeded to then enslave the rest of the world in all but name. ) |

Maybe something purposefully vague? The grunts always come up with a shortened, slang, derogatory term for the enemy. The Hegemony (the Heggies, the Heg, etc.) The Opposition (the Opps, Oppos, O's) The Faction(s) (Central Factions, Eastern/Western/Northern/Southern Factions, etc.) Legion/Legions/Legios (be funny to have the grunts refer to the enemy as LEGOs!) |

Federated United Coalition? "We got about 100 of those FUCs in the treeline." "Do we know which unit?" "Intel tentatively has identified either the Democratic Union of Micronesia or possibly Multi Union Democratic Alliance." "Great, so we could be facing some DUMFUCs or those MUDAFUCers?" |

Do NOT use the following cliched terms: Coalition Alliance United Federation Every book and game uses them and they suck. I always liked the 'Expeditionary Forces' myself. European Expeditionary Force, perhaps? Or make it an acronym - ANZAC is a great sounding one ("A squad of ANZACs crested the hill..."), so perhaps something similar? Is it a serious or comedic tale? |

The GLF (Global Liberation Front) is a good one. It makes the "bad guys" seem as if they think they're doing a good thing, fighting the "American menace." Kind of like a reverse of WWII, with the "Americans" in place of the Germans. |

Yeah, I think so too… Ttaskmaster - it's a serious story - non-comedy... |

Thing is, a multi-national force superior to the US will not have a 'small' name like Liberation Front or Freedom Force. That's too close to a small group of maybe a few hundred and makes them sound like terrorists... or just children. The name becomes too descriptive, like the 'No-Girls Club' you had as a kid, or something. A force formed by multiple governments will have a big, official-sounding name that confirms it as THE correct one... Something like how NATO and the UN sub-organisations are named. How about having something like the International Enforcement Treaty Assembly (IETA), who then deploy various units of the Federation of Euro-Asia & Africa Combined Armed Services (FEACAS)... obviously substitute Euro-Asia and Africa with whichever regions feature in your story. The military side can be pejoratively referred to as 'Fecals'... |
