The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Last night I turned on the television and came across the original "Pelham 123" being aired. Having seen the remake with John Travolta and Denzel Washington, I decided to watch (most of) it.

At one point, during a fire fight, I heard one of the characters say, "Hold your fire God damn it!"

And I immediately thought to myself, "Hey, that sounded like what Apone said", didn't pay it too much thought before moving on.

THEN....a bit later, I heard another character say something about, "...chicken-s&*t outfit", and I thought to myself, "Hey, that's kind of an odd coincidence."

Two lines, almost verbatim heard in a movie made in 1974, and heard again in another movie in 1986. Maybe whoever wrote Aliens (was it written by James Cameron, I can't remember?) was a fan of Pelham 123?

First line, fairly general response.
Second line, I daresay someone is an Aliens fan.

I hear a fair few lines that are odd enough to likely be a discreet 'homage'... or simply because it's hard to top such already excellent dialogue!

I'd say they're both fairly stock responses.

How many films do you hear comments about being "too old for this 5#!t" for example without it being necessarily an homage.

Once I would say is a coincidence...two probably not. I often hear "Stay Frosty" and while it's possibly a common line in certain types of films...it's too iconic in my mind to be a coincidence!

But Dropshipbob is pointing out that the lines PREDATE Aliens by 12 years. I'd say they're generic enough to just be "tough guy" talk, but it certainly is interesting. Some of the "ad-libbed" dialogue in The Blair Witch Project was actually recycled lines from another project one of the actors had worked on (but hadn't made it into general release). As you can imagine that didn't go over too well with the screenwriter of the original project!

Hmm, all this talk of Pelham 123 makes me want to listen to the Beastie Boys now!
