The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey everybody,

I don't know if anyone is interested but I'm working on a USCM military ID card design based directly on the new Geneva convention US military IDs... The ones with the RFID chip and bar codes. I plan to print a few on plastic cards for impressing the civvies at cons etc. Anyway if people are interested I'll post an editable PDF copy when I finish tweaking it so people can make their own.

Gwen

Hi ya Gwen :-)

I'd be interested in a I'd card as something a little extra to have with my kit :-)

I have the work pretty much done. I just need to get some color prints done on plastic to see how they look. I expect to post some photos and an editable PDF file for making your own soon.

OK so here's an image of my first draft of the ID card. My photo on the card is just a placeholder until I can get some photos of me in USCM uniform. Any constructive feedback is welcomed...

Thanks Dom,

If by the patch you mean the delta, with the dept of the navy etc. ring around it that is the only apparent seal of the US colonial marine corps I have been able to locate. If you have the correct one I will replace it. I copied the layout of the genuine current US IDs pretty closely and each one has the seal of the military branch the bearer is assigned to in the same location. They also do NOT contain the bearer's DOB or blood type in print, those are encoded in the card... Note the scannable codes and RFID chip... Please see the image on this DOD site: http://www.dodlive.mil/index.php/2011/06/more-personal-security-for-government-id-cards/

In Dom's and your defence, I have seen card with AND without DOB and blood type info.
I'm pretty sure it varies from country to county and what branch of the military it is. :)

I believe Dom is probably referring to use of the screaming eagle patch.

im looking at my ID right now and there is no Blood type. i would say not put the service number on tyhe front but put on the back. same with DoB. as per the keep the one you have i luv that one and is the correct one you should have there as per the Screaming Eagle im not sure if it should be on there since the ones now are blank there. but i do like this alot now to get them made lol.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I do want to point out that Although my design is heavily based on the real IDs I also intentionally changed a few things so as to help prevent any authority types from claiming it is a forged military ID (like the 40 Eridani Conventions bit) and also to try to make it fit the Aliens universe.

I put the screaming eagle/USCM logo in the lower right of the front of the card to act as a watermark similar to the US eagle on the real ones and because I think it looks good there. I can change that to the US eagle like the real cards if people think it works better.

I'll move the service number to the back of the card and put a DOB on with it. Do you like the screaming eagle image on the back? I just thought it needed something there and think it works well. Cosmo, what is on the back of your ID?

Thanks,

The old US military ID cards like the one I had when I was in the Air Force did have DOB and blood type but the the new issue cards do not. That stuff is encoded in the card now.

A few suggestions:

use USCM, Eurostile, or Helvetica fonts.

I can provide vector artwork of the eagle and delta if that helps.

United Space Command Colonial Marine Corps around the delta is nice also, Derick B style.

I really liked the old MAA cards with the camo pattern, but that's me.

Thanks Noble,

Vector art for that stuff would be most helpful. I Was thinking of doing them myself but if you have them it'll save me the work. Anything you have will be appreciated!

Now that I see The back of Cosmo's card I will make some changes to get closer to that.

Best I can tell the font being used on the new US mil IDs is Morovia PDF417 Barcode font for the code on the face of the card under the photo. The other one looks to be a 3 of 9 type font.

Here is my second draft of the ID. I still need to locate a barcode font that includes the "/" character so for now I replaced it with a "-" temporarily. I chose to omit the magnetic strip on the back of the card since I believe the card would have something much more sophisticated embedded in it for data storage by the 2170's.

So let me know what you think so far... =)

I would remove the "Armed Forces of the United States" just to prevent any accusations of falsifying real IDs. I personally like the screaming eagle, but I would recommend using vector art vice a picture of an actual patch. Otherwise looks great.
