Don't forget the USS Cerberus from Drop Zone Copernicus

I was thinking about making a ship patch called the USS Mitchell (for SciFiHero.net members) there was a character in the Book "Nostromo" (which is the main character's name) named "Captain Mitchell" and that also plays into our love of Stargate, since the newest Team Leader for SG-1 was "Colonel Cameron Mitchell".

The other ship name I was thinking of making a patch was USS Costaguana. The name comes from the fictious country that the city of Sulaco is in, but its a mouthful to say out loud!

I designed my own ship and patch, both out of pigheaded national pride :P and because I'd already made up that ship for my fan-fiction therapeutic endeavours. In my own version of the Aliens universe, jury-rigged from the film, the Tech Manual and the RPG (plus what I came up with to tie it all up), US stands for United Systems, and the Colonial Marines are a multinational force, not strictly an American one. Hence the use of USS.

Ladies and gents, the USS Cyrano:

And yes, I had a few patches made:

Technically speaking, this is also the unit patch for the French chapter of our little community, but there's only one other active French Marine, Christophe, and he seemed to have adopted Dom's Champlain design - or gone screen accurate. Besides, I haven't heard from him in a while. In short, it's just me!

All alone on a big ship...

I need some cats. :(

LOVE the hat on the patch!

Do you get one of them for signing up?

Cheers! ^_^ Sadly, no - our budget is currently too tight. I could scare up a couple of ostrich feathers, though...

From an in-universe PoV, is there anything that states the UK joined the UA? The CMTM doesn't say anything about it, and in my fan-fiction Heart of Darkness I have some references to UK being seperate.
Is it a commonly held theory, or just a device for us Brits who want to be CMs? :)

From what I remember (it's a bit hazy), the film never says anything, although all the Marines has US flags. The Tech Manual is firmly on the side of "United States Colonial Marine Corps" while the RPG is more "United Systems."

But I could be wrong, and I can't check as my copies are not here.

Edit: oh, and to actually answer your question (duh!): similarly, nothing from the movie, the TM certainly doesn't make Britain a part of the UA, and in the RPG the nations are separate, but recruits from all over can join the United Systems Corps.

Okay I hate acting like a cold bucket of water but...

In the film, they are the United States Colonial Marine Corps. They wear unaltered (13 bar, 50 star) US Flags and the APC has several plaques with USCMC on them (found under the monitors of Gorman's control station). They are United States Marines. The US doesn't stand for United Systems or Union Soldiers etc.

Anything not "United States" Colonial Marines is expanded universe and not official canon. That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with EU.

I know the CMTM has marines moaning about the Brits selling their enemies weapons.

Yeah Burton, I figured that, but wanted to know the common view, as it's you guys I want reading the stuff ;)

Don't forget that the crew dossiers seen in Ripley's hearing imply that England is a Socialist state (at least in 2122).

Well, the film doesn't come out and SAY, outright, that US only stands for United States, and that the USCM is not a composite branch made of units of multiple nationality, like a United Nations detachment. As far as I'm concerned, that's all the wriggle space I need to make up my EU ideas without feeling guilty. :P But you're right of course, Kevin: it's obvious they're an American outfit in the movie.

Seriously?? I never saw that!

The US in USCM stands for United States Colonial Marine Corps.
Otherwise we wouldn't need a UK in UKCM, would we? ;)

It's the "USS" that I was talking about - If you wanna be REALLY picky, it could well be that there are ships called the USS Wossname based out of the USA carrying USCM troops- Therefore the United States Ship Wossname... And right alongside it could be the USS Thingy out of Britain carrying UKCM members, being the United Systems Ship.
None of the options are mutually exclusive.

I forget, is the Nimbus an HMS or a USS?

I'm thinking of going with the U.S.S. Azuera, after the peninsula form "Nostromo". Maybe, maybe not.

EDIT: It's decided. I'm going with the U.S.S. Azuera.
