The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Just to flesh out the USS Columbia's patch.

Info on the design:

Designed by WO1 John K Williams, aka "Music Man".
Round design inspired by the USS Sulaco patch. Shield design inspired by other ship patch designs, specifically the shield and stars.
Stars represent the original 7 members of our newly formed crew.
Stripes on the shield... no rhyme or reason. In fact, it was actually a goof on my part that there are nine stripes on the shield instead of ten.
Colors were chosen to reflect the colors of the state flags for both Oregon and Washington States, since we have crew members from both sides of the Columbia River (natural border between Oregon and Washington States. Blue and gold are represented on Oregon's State Flag. Green, black and white (the shield) are represented in Washington State's flag.
The name USS Columbia was chosen because it was a symbol that best reflected the members or its crew. As indicated, the river is the natural border between both states. The Columbia River itself was named after the ship that Robert Gray captained when he explored the region. Originally, we were going to call ourselves the Gray's Harbor. But that was too much of a Washington State reference, as Gray's Harbor is well inside the state of Washington. Since we didn't want to take on a name that seemed to be Washington State themed-heavy (a potential slight that could have been seen by our friends over at the USS Duwamish), we opted to go with something more neutral to all parties involved. So we picked a name that reflected a river, a longstanding tradition of naming a ship and an old army fort that was commissioned to protect the mouth of the river.
The big gun in the center piece is one of the cannons that is on display at Fort Columbia, Washington. Fort Columbia is one of many forts that were built for the sole purpose of providing security and protection for citizens at the mouth of the river.
The 18th Battalion / 59th Regiment name comes from the fact that Oregon was admitted into the Union in the year 1859.

So concluded our modest introduction and history lesson! :D

I'm planning on ordering an abundance of patches, soon. Of course, we will see to our members getting their initial 2 patches per member. After that, if there is interest, I may consider offering patches to those who would want them.

Hence the use of USS.

And yes, I had a few patches made:

Technically speaking, this is also the unit patch for the French chapter of our little community, but there's only one other active French Marine, Christophe, and he seemed to have adopted Dom's Champlain design - or gone screen accurate. Besides, I haven't heard from him in a while. In short, it's just me!

All alone on a big ship...

I need some cats. :(

Poor Grumpy Frenchman.

I have one on my wall it work - it's a pretty nifty patch.

Hello everyone. I'd like to add a California based frigate to this registry. I present to you all the U.S. Fremont
which host the crew from the 9th Battalion, 31st Regiment. -fan made-

The breakdown of the patch is as follows:

1.)The bear is from our state flag which was modeled after the last grizzly bear captured in Ventura county, and kept in captivity til it died in 1911. It's name was Monarch, hence the call name "MONARCHS".

2.)The batallion Frigate "U.S.S. Fremont" is named after the commander of the first ever U.S.navy/ marine presence in California

3.)The battalion number "9" is in tribute to the date September 9th 1850, when California was granted statehood.

4.)The regimental number "31" is in tribute to the number of our state as in order of granted statehood.

Fair enough guys. For now I'm ceasing all activity aside from assembling my gear, and battalion patch for which to put on my BDU's and represent my local area. I'll put it out on the record though once again I have had no intention of attempting to usurp power from anyone else out here, or take charge of anyone else for that matter. I came up with my own battalion patch because I merely desired to keep my immediate allegiance more localized. I did post the question inquiring if there was already a localized California battalion out here I could join before hand, and although members residing out here were pointed out, no one spoke of any localized battalions. So far everyone seems to be attached to other units in other regions, so I figured there'd be no harm in creating one where none seemed to exist. I never meant anyone any wrong in doing so. I still have no intention of being a problem for anyone. I WILL become active as soon as enough of my gear is assembled, and I hope to have the chance of meeting of with others at future drops. :) Aside from that, I'll quiet down for now unless I have any questions. :delta:

The USS Alamo patch originates from the AvP life action role playing game series.
The series ran from 2005 to 2010 at the Donnerskopf in Germany and was quite a lot of fun.
While there were't too many intricate props around the atmophere was simply great.
Especially the later events were fantastic as the team got access to the 3 level atomic bunker from the cold war area.
Combined with a few strobe lights, some fog and a few aliens or predators lurking in the shadows you got the perfect setting.

Some places the Alamo visited:
Lyria 4
Relay station RB-42
LV 327
Campellus 3

Cheers,
Stefan

I have a small group of guys wanting to be marines near I live, so I created the UAS Anthony Henday.

The Henday is a scout frigate, It's name comes from Canadian history. Anthony Henday was an explorer and a convicted smuggler who explored the unknown Canadian interior back in the 1700's.

Ok, it has now been nearly two years since I last posted on this topic. All members of the Monarchs are now equipped with uniforms and armor. Only one member is still in the process of working on his armor with good reason due to delays. We are all members on this forum, and all have had our service numbers issued to us. None of us has any history of negativity with this forum. Our OIC is a veteran member, and has been to dragon con. I have personally already gone on two solo drops as of completing my armor two weeks ago, at both Wondercon, and Monster Palooza. We have our own FB page, and our own ship patch design. Can we have our ship patch added to the list that's posted on this Topic?

We are the 9th Battalion, 31st California Monarchs. We are assigned to the U.S.S Fremont.

This was a promo poster I was working on but never completed. We didn't all have our armor yet. It dates back to when we only had Six members.

I like the sound of United systems. Sounds like all the nations are together in a interstellar organisation or something.

Sound good though.

I would like to introduce you the warship ORP PULASKI. (The ORP mean the Ship of Republic of Poland. Kazimierz Pulaski was Polish hero of the American Revolutionary War). It is the mothership of Colonial Marines Drop Team Poland. The sets of patches are designed in full color and low-vis versions. And of course t-shirts for members of PLCM
