The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Favorites:

-Dawn of the Dead (original). 2004 remake is good, but I disagree with the fast zombies

-Dead Alive. Ultra gory Peter Jackson classic

-Shaun of the dead. Friggin hilarious

-Re-Animator. Head from a head 'nuff said

-Return of the living dead part 2. Excellent comedic parts

My opinion: 28 days/weeks later are not zombie movies. They are not re-animated corpses. They are living people infected with the rage virus.

As far as weapons go. I agree with the 5.56mm rifle and the 12-gauge, but the 9mm (although ubiquitous) does not pack enough stopping power

A .45ACP auto, a .357mag or .44mag revolver will work better.

I'm sure most of you already have this book, but the Zombie survival guide is a must have for zombie movie fans:

The original "Dawn of the Dead" hands down. I would love to visit the mall it was filmed in!!! WWAAAAYYY COOL!

I first saw Dawn of the Dead in an old 60's strip mall, similar to the one in the move. A 10:00 show. We come out of it, and the mall is closed. Just like the movie we just saw.

Very eerie feeling! "Whoa! Where are the zombies?!" LOL!

And, has anybody read the: "Zombie Survival Guide" ??
Great book! You'd be surprised at it's choice for best zombie gun- and no, it ain't a shotgun either...

And coming soon to a store near you

The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks

They have attacked Roman armies. The French Foreign Legion. Even prehistoric man. The undead have been a threat to humankind for millennia, and the living must always fight to survive. They're coming. And they're hungry. This gruesome graphic novel chronicles the most notorious undead outbreaks in history. Recorded attacks includes eye-popping artwork from Avatar Press (publisher of Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Garth Ennis, and George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead") and frighteningly beautiful splash pages packed with action, swords, gore, and, of course, hoards of drooling, walking, reanimated corpses hungry for live flesh. Those who don't learn from zombie history are condemned to repeat it.

It's not 'on fire', sir... It's being burned to a crisp in a matter of seconds!!

Bearing in mind that the flamers will be medium distance defences, the Zeds won't make it more than a few yards once alight. The flames will destroy their soft tissue.

I respectfully have to disagree. Getting hit with a flame thrower does NOT cook you to a crisp on the inside. Just on the outside.

Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside like a burnt hot dog on the grill. And if they're still gooey on the inside, they're still zombies. Flash fires like that kill humans, not zombies.

Depends on the fuel you use, surely?
If it burns well enough, it should destroy all the way through to the innards of the Zed.

I'm thinking something more than just basic Napalm, maybe with magnesium bits in it or some other such corrosive burning agent. I wonder if sulfuric acid or any of the blister agents burn well......

Either way, I have a range of about 70-80 metres on a Flamer, so hopefully the Zeds'll burn through before they get near me.
If they don't, I'll still have plenty of options left.
I can describe what I'd like, but realistically I'll take any and all weapons I can get my hands on.

Just keep those Zombie Rights activists outta mah way!!!

I don't think you ever want to set a zombie on fire.
You want a shambling inferno setting everything around it on fire?
In any environment?
With no emergency services available, a fire is probably the _last_ thing you want happening. Fires would burn uncontrolled.

Any large caliber weapon like a .50 sniper rifle is useless too - ammo too large, sound too great. Zombies can still hear and a large boom like that will send all zeds in your general vicinity toward you.

Anything that can fire a 5.56 or .223 round accurately should be enough, especially if you can silence it. Semi auto, single shot kills.

Tight clothing and shaved head so no zed can grab anything to hold on to you. AR/M4 carbine with several hundred rounds. Silenced 9mm as a backup and a machete. A bicycle (silent, and the fuel is from the user), plenty of water + water purifier and energy/protein bars. You'd last for a pretty long time in a zombie apocalypse.

That gives me mental images of a man on a bike riding down a street cutting the heads off zombies with the machete...

Nah - In a Zed Apocalypse, I'll have my Sweep & Clear head on.

Noisy weapons, big destructive things, I'll take it all.
Bring 'em on in hordes - The grouping will make mass-culling easier.

Once they are a rare as rocking-horse poo, I'll start going down the more traditional Infantry route of seeking out the last remaining stragglers.

My one and only major concern over choice of weapons is absolute minimal collateral damage. I don't like the idea of having to sacrifice friendlies just to score hits. Flamers and other such weapons will be for massed Zeds only.
