I tried listening to the audio book, lost interest about four or five chapters in.

The scientist guy near the beginning is running up the ramp to the plane, trips, and accidentally shoots himself in the head...wth? Really? What are the odds?!

Yeah, I was fine with that scene. My issue was with the guy with the limp somehow being terminal enough to be avoided by the Zombies, while Brad has to inject himself with the Plague to get past them!
