Thnak you for all the kind words and wishes (and pm's) my Friends.
I'm doing alright. My Mother is holding up exceptionally well. We will be scattering my Father's ashes
in the cemetary of his Mother next Sunday.
The gathering will be at a later unset date- it will have all the things he loved most- NASCAR, hockey, pics of his Harley (he had a '72 FLH), and (maybe) golfing.
One of his hobbies was racing stock cars at the local speedway back in the 50s and 60s. One story he liked to tell was of a particularly bad wreck he was involved in, in which his car had rolled and was sitting against the track wall. Two of his three seatbelts had snapped in the crash.
None of this scared him.
However he could smell gasoline and (I think) said he could spot it leaking out. The one and only time he ever was truly scared while racing was when he heard someone yell out "LET'S GET THE TORCHES AND CUT HIM OUT OF THERE!"
I have old super 8 footage (which has been transferred to vhs) of him racing at the CNE speedway in Toronto. At one point someone bumped him from behind causing him to fishtail violently. He recovered... and the next shot showed him trying to bulldoze that same guy off the track! Seemed more like watching a demoltion derby! Ironically, he was in thrid... until the first and second place cars collided on the last lap and knocked each other out. My Dad won that race!
Well... to get back to reality for a minute-
My Mother was contacted by the coroner who said that the cause of death was the concussion from the fall. We wil be obtaining a copy of the report. This will probably be a long process, but we will not give in.
Thank you again my Friends.
Kevin
