Post subject:  M870 trigger guard help

Hi All, I cut my SPAS cage and milled down the sides of the M870. My question is, do I cut the front of the trigger guard off? I can't figure out how to slip the M870 into the cage with the trigger guard front still attached. Help Please!

What I've done in the past is cut out the thin metal part that connects the L/R sides of the Spas cage at the bottom, back end where it fits into the shroud. You need to spread the halves apart when you insert the 870. The strength of the Spas cage really grabs the sides of the trigger guard tight.

I also cut a small notch out of my Spas cage to allow the pump release lever to remain on the shotgun.

You'll need to cut the bottom of the trigger guard off, leaving the front piece where it comes down from the receiver. Don't cut off too much as there are parts inside the trigger guard that can keep the unit from working if removed!

There's some decent pics posted by Glenn in this thread:

Is this the same with the Maruzen and the Tanaka M870s?

I'm having trouble finding a Maruzen one and I'm not sure if the M1100 works in a PR.

Does the Tanaka 870 work just as well, then - As in, will it cycle the
M40 rounds that Data et al supply?

The "cutting" is pretty much the same for the Maruzen and the
Tanaka trigger guards. There's parts inside both units that if you
remove too much material will make things not work right.

The Maruzen M870 (original or Data's new ones) will not work in
the Tanaka. Sorry.

The Tanaka shells are larger diameter. I think I still have one or
two Maruzens, I'll need to go compare them.

I'll get a picture of my Spas cage as well, showing how I cut it at
the back end to allow the trigger guard to "fit."

Here a auto cad drawing of the Maruzen M870 shotgun trigger guard.

On the S.P.A.S cage I cut a slot out for the trigger guard.

All you need to do is pull the cage apart to slide the M870 in.

I would say the Maruzen M870 grenade do not fit the Tanaka but measure the Tanaka and see if they are the same as the Maruzen.
