The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: New airsoft PR build with airsoft GL: Maruzen vs. Tanaka?

First, let me thank everyone for their help in getting my parts box assembled for this build. Previously I built MIM's resin kit and had a blast. Now I would like to go "whole hog" and end up with a firing airsoft Thompson and GL ala DATA, mnoble2, friendlyskies, Quartz and pepperpete. So far I have in hand or on order a TM Thompson, the G & P kit, matsuo shrouds (Al + resin), real SPAS cage and grip, Tommin airsoft adapter, Phil's stock, vent, front block and front triangle, all of DATA's metal parts (when available) and the Replicant FX light and sound board. I just ordered a Maruzen 870 and along comes all this neat Tanaka info. Seems to me, since space in the shrouds is at a premium, that storing the gas to fire the shotgun in each shell instead of a tank makes a lot of sense, and would leave more room for the electronics. DATA seems so well along toward a beautiful "plug and play" Maruzen solution that I hate to jump ship to the Tanaka camp lightly (how's that for a mixed metaphor!).

What do people think: should I send the Maruzen back and get a Tanaka or stay with the "tried and true" Maruzen? Can I spark a discussion of the perceived pros and cons of each?

Thanks, so much, again, for everyone's help!

Dunno about your question, but I am wondering why you've got a G&P kit when you also seem to have/be getting all the 'real' stuff that replaces it? :)

'Cause, stupidly enough, I bought the G & P kit months ago before I discovered this forum!

Just sent a PM about the left overs :D
But was thinking the same thing. Then again not knowing the plan of attack on the build not sure what parts are needed.

The Maruzen I know will work with the PR.

I made a gas tank that fire 60 shots. It cycles and fire in the S.P.A.S cage. I can take it apart easy and can the length of the shotgun to suit the cage and fit it easy to the S.P.A.S 12 grip.

Yes the only problem with the Maruzen is the gas tank.

The Tanaka I do not know any thing about.

Does it fit in the S.P.A.S 12 cage?
Can you shorten it to fit the cage?
Does it used the same arm so you can fit it to the S.P.A.S 12 grip?

I plan to make Tanaka type HE-40 grenades at a latter date.

If someone had done a Tanaka G/L PR please say.

I go with want I know.

Cheer's Steve

Thanks for chiming in, DATA, as your opinion carries a lot of weight. Pepperpete, at least, has a working Tanaka-based GL, I believe. Perhaps he would address your questions?

Thanks,

Steve

Doc may be wanting the G&P kit, but if not, then others on here (not me though) may want to take it off your hands. :)
