The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: How to join a PR together

So I am laid up from surgery bored and started to devote my time to my Aliens collection. My master plan is to have a firing PR and one that is convention friendly. So this will help to those of you that have a MIM , Mats SD etc shroud. The Idea is to be able to disassemble the gun with ease. My original construction had me directly screwing into the shroud the screws that hold it together. Fine if you have a static display bot not so good if you want to do a field strip. I used some aluminum posts an drilled them in from the inside. Then I just added the aluminum joining plates with allen bolts. Now I can assemble and dissemble as much as I want without having to worry about fatigue to the shroud. In the pic you can see one of the posts laying on top of the shroud for reference. Christian

Can't really see what you've done with just that one pic. :?

If you have those posts inside the magazine part of the shroud, won't they get in the way of the magazine?

The MiM shroud is basically solid resin with a slot for the magazine to slide into. All you'd need to do is drill through the solid part of the mag well and it will lock up tight with the screw post. The flat end of the post will not get in the way of the magazine.

Good idea by the way!

You mean the Matsuo is solid resin, cos I have the MiM one and it's hollow plastic.

MIM might have changed. The shroud I have is from the 2005? run and is resin. I wasn't aware that the last run had plastic shrouds. Thanks rook for clearing how the post inserts. PVB T answer question about interfering, you just have to dremel enough of the shroud from the inside so that it does not inter fear with the rail of the mag. This system was the only thing I could come up with so that I could field strip the PR and not put continuous stress on the shroud. Now I have discovered that the magazine opening needs to be opened up as the Airsoft mag is too thick but the Airsoft drops right in. Anyway I have nothing but time for the next few weeks so I thought I would work on this.

I believe the original MiM PR kit was done using their own shrouds which were as Rook described above and made of Resin. However, they now offer the standard G&P kit which is what PVB has. Although I bought mine from Wold Armouries it is the same thing.
Matsuo's shrouds, for the record, are hollow vac formed ones.

Cheers

Darren

Yes, I meant the ORIGINAL (and in my opinion, better) shroud set that MiM sold. The interior was created in such a fashion that the Thompson parts just dropped into the shroud like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. The mag well was also a dream as there was no guesswork when inserting a mag.

I also believe Matsuo is working on (or will be releasing) a cold cast aluminum shroud for his rifles.

WHAT??????????????

Mat.....please feel free to chime in.

Like Rook said, I do prefer the original MiM shroud as opposed to the G&P. My 2 cents.
