The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Was it working before, or is this the first time you've tested it?

Sounds like the light gate isn't working.

I'd check your connections first.

Also a member- Neophyl (name from the old board) might have

some spare parts. He's in the UK.

Yep I should still have at least 1 light gate setup from a G&P.

The components inside the plastic molding are pretty standard (side emmitting ir led and side looking ir detector) but the soldering on them is pretty shoddy so I would check that a wire hasnt come off. The molding is only held together with hot glue.

ill make sure i have a good look at it. hope nothings broke. ill also check the connections an make sure there ok, if they r then its probably just a faulty light gate. hope not.

Thanks to this thread, I decided to check my light gate before assembly. Sure enough, mine does not seem to be working either. Since it's just IR emitting and receiving, I'm assuming that simply obstructing their "view" of one another should drop the counter down. When I try that, nothing happens. I've removed the cap on the light gate that's held on with hot glue and from what I can see, the solder's on the the 2 leads and the ground - I don't have a volt meter/circuit tester handy so I can't say for certain. I also did not check the connections that are on the shroud side since it's under that inner cover.

Is it possible to rebuild a light gate using stuff from Fry's or Radio Shack?

2 options, cover the postage costs, so around £2 max so I can go get the padded envelope etc or it can be passed over at the NSC event which wont cost you a penny. Up to you :) Its just sat in a box otherwise.

Hey neophyl, I don't suppose you have the 2 plastic covers that go either side of the mag well on the G&P kit going spare do you?

I know the counter board is fixed to one of them but could that be taken off and put on Dangerousrick's one.

If so, then please let me know what you would like for it in a PM or something mate.

Or if I could have your broken board Rick?

Cheers

Darren

Sorry to jump in on this thread btw.

I've used the HUGE pic from my PR build pages to show it a little clearer:

Image

So you're saying that the one on the lead (to the left in my pic) is the same as the one on the right?

Have you still got the old lead?

If so, are you able to pull the three wires out of the back of the plugs and swap them over?

Sounds like you're all sorted! But just to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted;

1) I had a counter that wasn't going down, but I discovered it was a slightly loose clip terminal on the battery!!!

2) If your problem IS the light gate, and you still haven't got one for any reason, I will shortly be removing mine if you'd like it?

ok i got me light gate 2day and it works :D . 1 slight problem is that 1 of the bulbs is sticking to far into the barrel an is affecting the trajectory of my bb's :( . im pretty sure i know why the bulb is being pushed into the barrel so i will sort that out later. when that is done ill give it a quick test and if all is good ill put it back together.
