The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well, I'm prepping the build of my last pulserifle ever. I aim to make this my (what some of you have heard me refer to as...) "Hero Rifle."

I already have a TM M1A1and all the bells and some whistles.

I'm figuring out the GL section.

I have a real steel Spas Cage and grip. I currently have a gas Maruzen M870 90% prepped and ready to install.

My question is this: Do I...

1) Keep the Maruzen, even though I'll probably never get it to shoot again. It does make a nifty clicking sound, and does eject shells.

2) Go cheap, and get a Maruzen CA870 (spring gun). This does NOT eject shells or have a moving bolt cover.

3) Sell the Gas Maruzen to help pay for a gas Tanaka 870 shell ejecting?

Opinions?

Russ

I'd go with 1 or 3.

1.Data (Steven P.) makes a gas tank to get the Maruzen
working. The only negative would be the wimpy "fuff"
sound when it fires.

3. Expensive unexplored territory. Some guys from Japan
have made some cool slugs. How much does the tanaka
go for... 450 ish... They guys at AEX said they weren't
impressed with the performance vs. cost.

Then external battery? or Lipo?

My two cents dude.

Because when my "Hero" is done... what's the point of making another? :) I hope to make this rifle have all the features that an ultimate type rifle would have. Probably not a sound FX board, as there's not a lot of real estate in the shroud I'll be using, but it should be skirmish worthy... and as heavy as my last rifle (12+ pounds I'd imagine). ;)

Some test fit pics from last night...

External or what? I'm not familiar with that term.

hey Russ

Great pics mate

Since youv'e already done alot of the work needed on the M870 already I would say keep it. DATA does make an internal gas tank that you might be interested in, which sits in the mag well on the opposite side to the counter. I'll have some pics of mine up next week hopefully.

The battery will be internal on the ones that DATA has done for himself and me but bear in mind we are using the G&P shrouds so there is an intsy bit more room at the back above the stock.

Cheers

Darren

Hello Russ.

Yes my PR is a fulling working airsoft PR and the batteries and gas tank are inside the shrouds.

The stock, G/L and machine gun works. The whole build is very solid and the counter also works.

I will make so M40 grenades to cycle and than fire with the Maruzen shotgun at a later date.

Like Darren said the G&P is more room at the back so the batteries do fit but I want to get a slimmer batteries.

My PR weighs about 5KG.

It makes all the right sound with the G/L. It all smooth and soilded.

I will have tp post some Photos soon of my PR as it a bit of art and design.

Thanks for the info guys! Feel free to forward any web sites or other info to me (or post pictures/info in here) regarding the gas tank. Adding the tank would save me some cash, as I already have the Maruzen 870. :)

When I bought it I also got about 20 shells. :)
Not counting the solid milled ones from Ob1Kenny.

I hadn't realized people were using lithium polymer batteries now. I recall some discussion about them a while back, but haven't really been keeping up with the "tech specs" so to speak.

Thanks!

Russ

I was looking to get a Maruzen here in Germany, but didn't get one. So I took the expensive way and bought a Tanaka.
That thing is great! Even the internals (except for the firing pin) look and work exactly like on the real steel version and I think you can't get any closer to an original.

Cheers,
Stefan

I've got a Maruzen, but it's only a placeholder for a real steel one... Unfortunately prices for an old specification de-ac are starting at £300 at the moment.

One day, one day... Muhahaha!

P.S. - Ditch the Maruzen and get a real one. :)

PLEASE tell me you have pictures of the mods you did to make it work in the GL!

Ahem, I mean I might be curious about such things if information was presented. ;)

But you can't shoot your friends with a REAL 870... it kind of irritates them for some reason. :)

Looking forward to it Stefan! Thanks!

I figure the more information I have will allow me to make a decision that's not based entirely on "what I have on hand."

Like I said, I intend this to be the last PR I build, so I want it to be as shiny (in a Firefly sense...) as possible. :)

I could have used those before I hacked my 870 to bits a couple years ago. :)

Nevertheless, you still have a PM. :)

Hi Russ,

I still don't have any pictures of my Tanaka, but here's something that might be of more use:

I hope I'll have the time to take a few "shots" during the weekend :)

Thanks for the diagram Stefan! I can't believe how far that gun will disassemble! Many of the parts that can be taken apart on the Tanaka were moulded as one piece on the Maruzen, making the PR mod much more difficult.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of how you modded the gun!

Russ

Actually, I didn't mod it - yet.
However, I'm 99.9% sure that it's possible to mod it exactly the same way as my real steel version.
It looks like the barrel is held in place by a small pin - so contrary to the diagram it should also be possible to remove the barrel and the bolt from the receiver.
Just out of fun, I removed the stock from the Tanaka and replaced it with the wooden stock from my real steel. It's like it was made for the Tanaka :)
The M40 grenades however might pose a problem - the Tanaka shells are about 0.5mm smaller in diameter and 12-70 sized. So unless you remove the inner barrel (which is easy to do), even slightly undersized 12-76 sized M40s will not fit.

Cheers,
Stefan

I don't think the grenades will be that big of an issue. I imagine somone who makes solid ones currently would be able to turn it down by an additional .06 without too much difficulty.

I wonder what kind of performance you'd get out of the normal airsoft BB shot shells, if you removed the inner barrel?

A company makes a "slug" shell that fires a rubber ball at insanely high velocity. To get them to work you need to remove the inner barrel. I'm just curious what would happen if you fired the 6mm BB shells without the barrel installed.

Get busy taking that one apart! ;)

Would it be possible to get scans of the manual that comes with the Tanaka 870?

Also, how about an "out of the box" review? I'm sure others would be interested.

Cheers!

Russ
