Post subject:  G&P M41A upgrades

well, my pulse rifle just arrived? and, although it is really great to finally hold my favorite rifle, i am very disappointed with the build quality. i have a few issues,a dn was searching for solutions:

1- the stock... it sucks! the mechanism is so horribly made, im sure children in mogadishu could make a better one. what can be done to this locking mechanism to make it reliable? right now, the little plastic piece that holds the stock expended is broken off, and the only solution i see there is glue something there to prevent the little metal lock from tilting back, off of the stock, but i am sure there are better ways
2- creakiness.... the plastic is creakier than a tm famas on speed. how can i dull this down? i was considering just glueing it all together, but then maintenence would be tough
3- ROF... maybe it is my battery (i think there is something wrong with it), but the rof is like 400 rpm. is that normal? could this rifle handle a 9.6?
4- COLOR... it looks fake. would this be acceptable: spray paint the front section (the spas shroud and heatshield) black, and the main body (the green part) a dark green? id then do weathering (to a small extent) and add in some character. sound good?
5- grenade... or should i say shotgun shell. yeah... no. i know i need to replace this, but i was wondering, do i really need one of those custom ones with the holes in it, or could i just get any m40 and glue it in?
6- sling... i need one. i dont trust the stock to hold one, so where can i mount it? DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SCREEN ACCUTRATE. and i just need a place to mount one, i have plenty of slings
7- FPS... what can it handle? i was hoping to get around 330 fps.
8- ammo counter battery... is there a way to locate this deeper in the mag well?
9- the thompson is supposed to fire in semi AND auto right? mine only is firing in auto, i assume this is an issue with the one i have. i need to contact the seller...

i think that is all... sorry it is so much :D
thanks everyone for your time, i do apreciate it, and i look foward to your responses. thanks again!

Yup, get yerself one of those M40s and you'll be well chuffed. 8)

As a fellow recent G&P owner, I'll respond to some of your questions/statements:

1. Yup, the locking bit was duff as soon as I put the shroud around the PR, but after taking it apart to retro fit the M40 it now works, sort of. You could fit a different mechanism to just allow the stock to slide in/out, with no locking positions, using the holes that the rear site was screwed to.

2. Mine doesn't creak at all, so maybe check all fixings are aligned okay, or you just have a slightly warped shroud?

4. Colour looks okay to me, but if you're after screen accurate then repainting is the only option, but good luck finding Brown Bess paint for the shroud. :?

5. See above comment about the aluminium M40s from the Corporal. 8)

6. You say you want a sling, then say you have loads of slings, so not sure what you want. :?
I bought a 2 quart canteen (with outer cover) on eBay, which has a sling big enough for the rifle, but others made their own from webbing.

8. Battery holder; Yes, you can Dremel off the base of the holder box, so the battery sits deeper.

Some I haven't answered as they relate to firing the gun, which I haven't tried/needed.

HTH :)

1. A lot of work. Check out www.rookscastle.com
In tutorial section. You'll need to buy an SD studio or
Matsucorp stock. Throw the G+P stock in the trash.

2. I'll post a thread on how I removed the handle creakiness.
Don't glue it. You'll never be able to service it.

3. I'm using 8.4v 1050mAh. I'm happy with the ROF.
Use a bigger battery, chances of melting internals increases.
9.6v should be okay. I wouldn't go higher.

4. Paint the whole thing. I think it looks like a toyish unpainted.
I primered mine then painted it. Looks more realistic in my
opinion. I also added some missed details.

5. Go with Dom's replacement grenade for sure.

6. I'm the accurate sling maker. Do #1 and youl'll have something
to mount to.

7. Buy an M100 spring and upgrade to metal bushings.
Take the thompson part to a good shop. Let them do that.

8. Yep. Dremel the top of the battery compartment off.
I did and my battery has never fallen out.

9. Sounds like the selector switch is screwy.
Have a shop look at that too.

Hope that helps.

ok, thanks for all the help guys! i still have a few questions though:

1-about the grenade, i know that the above ones work, but what is to prevent me from just gluing a unmodified one in? i just want to see if i can buy a normal one, and glue it in without all the sawing and such, as i already have an unmodified one, and dont feel like buying another now

2- where can i buy a replacement stock?

3- can you link me when you post the creakiness-solving thread?

thanks everyone! great help! feel free to post anything you think i should do to improve my colonial marine experience!

1. Sure. you can epoxy a regular m40 grenade in there.
Check your clearances.

2. PM Matsuo or

http://props.steinschneider.com/pulser/printro.htm

contact phil steinschneider.

There is still a lot of work to make the locking mech.

I recommend Matsuo's because I believe his has the

center slot and locking notches built into his.

The Phil S. stock doesn't.

3. Haven't made the anti-creakiness thread yet.
Stay tuned.

I really don't recommend this and I wouldn't guarantee any success. All those who've obtained the M40GP from me have had 100% success with this item.

I used an adhesive called Bison Hard Plastics Adhesive to glue my M40GP in place.

It's similar to Polystyrene adhesive, in that it partly 'melts' the plastic, making a very good bond with some pressure applied until it starts to harden.

Here's the post showing it glued to the 'carrier plate' (with Sellotape to help hold it in place), before being stuck back inside the GL:
