The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I removed the counter/display and sensor assembly from a snow wolf/evike pulse during one of my misadventures.

Now I am uncertain how to get it functional again. The item seems pretty straight forward except for the front sensor which I can't tell if it broke or if it is supposed to be this way.

Here is what I know:
-Prior to removing it, the counter only counted when movement was detected between the two clear nodes
-Everything powers on in its current state
-When I touch the silver wires from each node together in the middle, the counter counts down FAST. It does not appear to need the sensor to detect motion. I simply counts to zero very quickly.
-When the table the items are on bounces, it counts in chunks, even though the wires don't touch.

What I hope to learn:
-are the silver wires supposed to touch?
-If so where?
-If not, how can I ensure a correct (or even semi correct) count?
