Post subject:  Suitable M1A1 for a display build
Howdo!

Been visiting here for a while now - Such a great community, wishing I had joined sooner :)

I've managed to get my hands on a G&P PR Kit and now just trying to decide which Thompson to buy to build it around. My 1st choice was buying a CYMA M1A1 Thompson as it has a metal body. I don't have a UKARA and really don't have any plans to go skirmishing reguarly so I'm apprehensive about buying a two tone version and effectively creating a (debatable!) RIF - plus I have a young son that (for all I'm a careful dad) I would hate for him to get his hands on it one day!

So my next thought was go for a cheaper plastic / resin body Thompson and gut out the airsoft element leaving only the body. That prob sounds daft but the PR I want to build is mainly for display with some eletronics, interaction / probable upgraded parts over time as I find em.
Would this one be suitable?

I guess the best thing to buy would be a broken metal body one and gut it, but I can't find any in the UK.

That looks superb mate!!

I've put the money aside to buy the metal CYMA so I'm just debating with myself how easy it would be to reinstall the motor etc after removing it - or whether just buy the £60 resin and see how it goes as I wouldn't feel bad if I gutted it.

I've not much info about airsoft obv but if I removed the workings would that be the same as deactivating it essentially? Ie Taking a two tone gun, removing the mechanism for firing BBs and fix the G&P kit around the body.

Well - Really just in case the law ever found it as I don't have a defence! I suppose I could just remove the battery as you say but thinking more just making it less likely it'll ever be fired.

I wouldn't worry too much about that happening. Be sensible with it and you'll never draw their attention.

I have the Tokyo Marui (CYMA is identical I think) in my build, it looks great and gives you the option of easy "pew pew pew" if you like shooting small plastic balls. But: it's very easy to gut it and remove the inner workings, leaving you with accurate outer parts so to speak.

If you do end up with an airsoft version and removing the internals, I'd be very keen to buy the selector plate off you (very small, easy to post part), as those are hard to source replacements for on the this side of the world. Cheers.
