BBC,
[begin disclamer]
I have a modest knowledge of guns so I could be mistaken, but...
[/disclamer]
The upper receiver of a gun contains the bolt, charging handle, and extractor (help me out people). And the lower receiver has the trigger group, and part of the mag well.
I'll try to come up with a picture to illustrate.
*EDIT* ok this should help:

This is the right side of an M-16 upper receiver.

This is the left side of an M-16 lower receiver.
As near as I can tell, if you look at the left side of the flamer, the part under the carry handle is the upper receiver
reversed showing the right side. Directly behind it is the left side of part of the lower receiver.
Hope this helps.
(However if I am wrong- ignore it all;) )
Kevin

Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat."
