Post subject:  Replacement "U" stock piece for G&P M41A

Just to let anyone who has a G&P M41A, you should be careful when putting pressure on your stock. The little "U" piece that keeps the stock pin in position, hence keeping the stock locked in place, can break on the left side (side closest to the front of the weapon) when enough force is applied to it. I set my M41A down too hard on its stock at the skirmish last week, and broke the left side of the "U" clean off. Because the stock will not lock properly without this piece, I am having a local machinist replicate the piece in stainless steel.

This message is for anyone who has a G&P M41A and has broken their "U" stock piece, or wants to replace theirs with a stronger piece before it breaks. I opted to have mine created in stainless steel (very durable, no maintenance), but the piece can be replicated in several other metal types if you wish. The piece in stainless steel cost me $50, but it might be lower for more pieces because the machinist no longer has to program his machine to make the piece.

So, if anyone would like a piece created and shipped to them, you may email me (Rydiak -at- giborama -dot- com) and I will send you some more information.

In addition to this piece, I can also have other parts replicated and created. I'm making a deal with the machinist as I type to have various parts created as needed, so let me know. I figure that because of our costuming hobby, replacement parts for anything are hard to find. Keep in mind that this isn't just for Airsoft, as other parts could be created too. Stainless steel Shoulder Lamp, anyone? :P

Hey Ryan,

Do you have any pics of your rifle before and after?

I'm especially interested in the Grenade Launcher section, including shots of how it pumps, it's overall thickness and internals.

Aside from the piece that broke off, how solid does the rest of the rifle feel? Is there any wobble in any of the componets?

Pictures... Pictures!!!

Glad to hear that a machinist was able to replicate the part for you. That sort of thing always makes your heart skip a beat, especially on an exotic piece like the M41-A, where replacement parts aren't readily available.

A *steel* shoulder lamp? Yikes! Heavy.... aluminum would be much better.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the rifle during my construction of it. I was in a hurry when I built it, having only a few hours left before I had to leave for a skirmish. I will, however, take some pictures now for you to see.

As far as the overall strength of the G&P M41A kit goes, it is VERY durable. The metal parts are all aluminum, and the plastic is a very strong fiber ABS material. I'd say the gun is more durable than anything Tokyo Marui has made. My only complaint is that an aluminum block used on the butt of the stock to reinforce the connection between horizontal bar and the vertical bar was threaded slightly wrong (the screws won't fit properly), but this can easily be fixed by just glueing the parts together. I can't complain too much about the "U" piece I broke, because it was just plastic and I put a HELL of a lot of force on it to break it, so I don't think it should be considered a big worry.

Though this may just be a personal problem of mine, I must admit that you should be careful with the small screws and threads on the weapon. I stripped 3 of the small "Allen head" screws and two threads in the creation of my M41A. :P Exercise caution when handling small parts!

Ryan,

Can you email me the info as to where you got your kit from, and the cost? Just curious.

Thanks!
