Has anyone tried to fix one? I think the strobe is burned out on mine.

Jeese, can't say I have experience with these tracers. They're cool fort effect, but for skirmishing they give away your position big time in the dark. Try posting your question on Arnie's Forum:

Thanks, I know. non tactical. I just love the effect. Turns a grown man into an 8 year old instantly.

Hey Joe,

Is that a tracer in the truest sense of the word, or does this add-on act more like a simulated muzzle flash?

I never pulled mine out of the box thinking it was a stupid bolt-on mini flashlight that lit up the BB's as they flew out the barrel.

So am I to understand it's simply a strobe that is somehow in sequence with the firing of the BB's?

It is an awesome effect. The TM has an internal motion sensor linked to a strobe, so yes the strobe flashes with each round, even at full auto.

Whoa there big boy!

If this little light emitting doohicky thing is really as cool as you are claiming it is, you may have to think up a better trade than that! ;)

I saw one company is making illuminated mags now, eliminating the need for an actual tracer.

Call me crazy but how does that work? The LED light would need to go up the feed tube turn a right angle and get past the hop up?

Or am I missing something..?

Yes, you're missing something. :)

You use glow in the dark BBs.
You put the BBs in the mag, with an LED light shining on them.

The LED... well... lights the BBs.
You shoot, they glow. End of story. :D

The Tracer unit "strobes" when a BB passes the light gate inside. The strobe effect is what causes the light sensitive BBs to glow. Same principle, different engineering.

Ah right. Where would you get such a beast as glow in the dark BB's.. And are they biodegradable?

I get mine on ebay. It is a small market because no one would use them in a game. It would be like wearing a neon sign. Make sure you get the .20 ones. A lot of vendors try to sell .12 marked as .20.

Actually, most of the guys I know that DO use tracers at night games stagger their BBs. They use standard mags, and for every 4 or 5 normal BBs they insert one tracer BB. They actually look like real tracers then too, as real steel tracer rounds are usually not used by themselves, but mixed with regular rounds.

And sorry, but tracer BBs are NOT biodegradeable. :(

By the way - there are biodegradable tracer round out there:

... and if even a German shop has them, they are likely to be quite common ;)

Thanks Stefan, I stand corrected. When I last used them (2-3 years ago) they did not manufacture Bio-degradeable versions.

I only found these by accident some time ago and it sticked because I was wondering how "biodegradeable" these chemicals could be.

Cheers,
Stefan

Post subject:  Re: TM Full auto tracer

I think the term "biodegradeable" is not really 100% accurate in most cases. Keeping in mind that you need regular access to things like wind and water for them to break down, some areas of the country (parts of California for example...) with low humidity and no rain might not see the BBs break down for years!

Well my Ill Mag came today but it does not work. Well, at least not with cheap glow bbs in my basement. I will try again tonight when it gets dark. I think there is too much time from when the bbs get charged to when they fire.
Oh well, worst case, I have an extra mag.
