The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm well aware of that, but there's a chance it'll be cheaper, and easier to find, than Shoei.
And definitely more reliable in Scottish weather!

Depending on who makes it, and just speaking with the chaps at Fire-Support, they've also heard the rumour and it's possibly going to be ASG (but this is still all subject to rumour control), then even if it rocks in at the average support weapon cost of £600, then it'll still be a bargain.

The shoei one, whilst sechshooal in terms of detailing, uses external air and that bellows system and is to be perfectly frank. Pants... in terms of Skirmishing.
Shoe-horning AEG parts into a De-Ac (which by the way is technically a bit naughty in a legal sense), is also pretty difficult and costly.

Which leaves a purpose built AEG MG-42.
Which will not only be reliable (depending on the internal design), upgradeable, able to get spares, consistent and have a decent rate of fire. (11.1v LiPo and decent MOSFET anyone??).
And lets face it, a decent M249 nicely tricked out makes a fine support weapon.

Aaron, you have to remember, over here in Blighty, we get this thing called RAIN... and COLD. Which plays havoc with gas guns. Even more so up Scapey's neck of the woods. We're not all blessed with 15 degrees C + and blazing sunshine every day.

So whilst full of win with it potentially going to be an AEG.....

I's full of WIN because it's an MG-42.

But then I've heard all this before, on more than one occasion. I'll believe they're releasing an MG-42 when I've got my grubby paws on it.

Like I don't know about the cold? California has Truckee, a small town in the Sierra Mountain range that gets to be the coldest place in the U.S. from time to time, because it's shaped like a bowl, and the cold air sets in it. Over a decade ago, I set out to run an airsoft snow OP. Many people thought that it couldn't be done, because no one wants to play airsoft in the snow. I make it happen, and ran that event 3 years in a row, and it was a success. We even snow-camped in Truckee, and at 10PM at night, the last time we checked the temperature, it was -12 degrees (F). In subzero temperatures like that, everything becomes a challenge... From pissing, drinking, and even eating.
For instance, we cooked some steak. Upon eating, the first bite was warm and tasty. The second bite was cold, like it was just pulled from the fridge... And then the stake was so frozen that you had to hold it over the fire again for 20 minutes before you could take another bite. I got so hungry that I pulled out a powerbar, and nearly broke a tooth on it. I then slammed it on a table, and took a small sliver that broke off, and sucked on that for a while. Eating, is never something that you'd figure could be such a challenge when it's so freaking cold out.

Anyhow, I had experimented with different gases to make gas guns work. I even made the very first Lithium-Ion battery pack for an AEG, and I had to purchase the first available Li-Ion trickle charger ever made... It was all in German, for apparently German model toys that were starting to use Li-Ion batteries.

We normally get extra folk showing up when it snows - Food's not a problem, as the lesser-spotted white haggisses come out in the snow, and they don't move too quickly at first. You can just grab them, and put them straight onto the fire to cook. Delicious!

I take it they are a distant cousin of the greater left and right handed mountain haggis? Where one set of legs is shorter than the other.

My source there said he was not actually sure when it would be out or what it would cost. He was under the impression it was an early development, sort of product.

Airsoft release dates: the last great mystery. ;)

They say "September"- they mean "February the year after"
They say "Coming soon!!"- they mean "Hopefully before the end of the century"
;)

If someone put these in a functional pair of sentry gun frames, I'd be impressed! Come on!

Tempting idea.

If it is September, might have to reconsider buying the Barrett I had my eyes on.

Might even try my hand at making a M56 myself. Look out for a post begging for help in the new year.

Seems a bit of a waste to seal it up never to be seen again in a sentry, might aswell just use a cheaper long barrelled alternative, just my view.

its on preorder again! :D 600 bucks though........ /cry

hmm......might have to sell my smartgun and build another......

its an AEG with autowinding ammo box...i hate those, they always break. should rewire it for running off one of the selector switches or rear handle.

did that with every large support box mag ive ever had. never had a problem after that crap STAR M-249.

It's all to play for right now- no-ones handled it, let alone shot it.

For what'll translate into £600 in the UK, that's a lot of money for a support AEG.
It's NOT a lot of money compared to buying a deact MG42 (£1200 and counting) or finding a Shoei then gutting it .

De-ac MG53s can be had for WAY less than that, BTW... And are all but identical.

I have a hyperfirm MG-42 I kept to use for this someday if possible. But the airsoft one looks very appealing!

I am sorely tempted. Not a single clue about building the arm or the rest of the Smartgunner armour though

Teaches me for being a pessimist! Any idea who's going to be stocking it in the UK?

Generally for the arm you either scratch build or use a camera arm off ebay (there's a company called flycam that do them).

Ok. just got off the phone with Evike.com (HI TIFFANY!)

They have one (1) in the warehouse. all the employees have moles....i mean touched it. Marketing made everyone put hands on it so they could say "yes its here. I've held it. its awesome"

This picture was shot in their store:
Image

if you walk into the store, turn right and its there. Yes, the prototype is at the Evike store.

She said the following "its heavy stamped metal. The stock is real wood but the grip is not. The wood imitation isn't the best. Matrix is making many of them, right now you can get the gun and magazine only. In the future, they might sell more mags. Its taller then my cubicle neighbor, hes 5 foot 11! The charging handle goes back and forth, it doesn't do anything though."

They ordered a ton of them, and will send em out as they get them. Arrival has been pushed back due to perhaps shipping (she wasn't totally sure about the exact reason though). OCT2013.... :D

Oh and

TL;DR: they are real, no foolies, october they will be in!

Thanks for the update 25-Serria.

Does anyone know the Joule value (important for imports to Germany).
So far I haven't seen any Germany dealer, but I'm considering buying one.

Frank
