The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Did they have an MSRP for it?

$630 at Evike
They have a 10% off coupon code too.

http://www.evike.com/products/44006/
I think when I checked out there was a link to the coupons next to the code field

I paid a good chunk of that for a Rubber Hyperfirm MG42, it will be cool to actually get one that does stuff lol.

well they charged my card and the payment posted. Not too happy about that since it's a preorder.

Is this standard operation procedure for Evike? The only thing I ever got from them was a pulse rifle that was in stock. (first one was broken, then replaced)

Anyone out there pay in full last year and still waiting?

One of the guys on Arnies had pics up and an initial opinion thread.

Looks like the gearbox might be a problem for M56 projects, though most people here might know better.

That's going to be a big box. Looks like the battery is in the stock too but I guess you don't need a battery with no gear box.

Plenty of places to move the battery to if you're switching the wood stock for a metal tube handle!
Pity about the gearbox, but to be fair when you've got the full on Smartgun rig rockin', very few folk are gonna notice the pistol grip sticking out down there. You could always dress it up with another cosmetic piece with similar styling to the parts already added to the MG42 to turn it into a Smartgun... Or some bright spark might be able to machine a gear doohickey to allow you to turn the motor 90 degrees and lay it flat?
Data?

Could it be possible to rig the motor up with one of those cables for extending a dremel tool?
You could mount a gear on one end and the motor axel on the other end. Then you could mount the motor pretty much anywhere.

sooooo, its on the way.... thursday itll be here.

what i was going to do was leave the pistol grip there with a greeble over it for airsoft use, and remove the gearbox for con use. no chance of a overzealous con guard trying to attach a battery if theres no gearbox to work it.... :D

yes that happened at a con once. he felt pretty stupid when he couldnt find the battery cable in my mp5

ok so back from con. mg has been dropped off with matsou.... for the matsuo touch!

im not totally impressed with the build quality. its either pot metal or aluminum body. magnet wont stick to most of the parts. good news is a real bipod fits. gunna try it on his ww2 german MG mount. stock, while looking nice at first, is bad. was loose.

It turns out that the drum is a little bit smaller; haven't tried to fit the original drum, yet.
The handle is also not 1:1 in size and detail, but its moveable.

Inside the MG42 isn't much space for additional electronics.
Mine used the whole drum space for speaker, batteries, MP3 Player, amplifier, etc.

Looking forward to see pictures from others.

In case anyone wondered: GSG is the European/German distributer for Evike.
In the USA you get the "Export" version with assumable more Joule for less bucks.

oh and i forgot to mention: the charging handle doesnt lock forward due to the barrel holder. yea....explain that one.

plus, instead of putting real rivets in, they bolted them in.

let that sink in for a second.

bolted. on. rivets......

I have an order in with matsuo and I'm just going to keep this one for my WW2 collection. Good upgrade from my rubber MG42. Maybe get A deac someday... someday

^ If you can, in the future, please let me know how different Matsuo's M56 build feels from this MG42. I've always been on the fence between using an airsoft base (even though this MG42 is aluminum/pot metal) vs. ordering a complete build from Matsuo due to durability issues and the general weighted feel of the build (solid resin vs. metal airsoft base, which one is the better option etc).

Fyi, many of the concerns about this airsoft MG42 in particular are right. Judging from the reviews of this gun, all the auto winding mags have a tendency to break down and the so do the connectors. It would be more skirmishable with the right parts but looks more useful as a base for potential M56 builds imo.
