Boy that line sounds familiar

Will guys... Just as the titled suggests, 7 more days and me and the bud's are heading out for our 2 days of AirSoft war fare... I'm so much looking forward to this.

Were leaving the wives at home and packing into the claw 4x4 and heading towards the Horizon.. Who knows, maybe will drive right into the Sun :D

Went to the local Army Surplus store today and walked out ready to join the USCM. Ready to GET IT ON!

My wife gave me the rolling eyes look when I threw all the gear on, slapped on the camo makeup on and topped it off by putting a black colored head wrap with a Scorpion image on...

Hey Guys…..

The Pondarosa (LOL) my Fathers property is located near Yosemite National Park in Cal. He only has 15 acres of land, but it is pretty dense with trees and has some great rock structures that overlook the entire valley floor.

I’m hoping to have at least 4 guys attend, (2) for each team, but so far it’s just (3). Since some of you guys played Airsoft before, would you think its fair if the flag defender was just one guy? Maybe to help balance this we could allow the defender to setup the Claymore Mines anywhere on the field. I suppose I could also loan out my Grenade Launcher to defender. This would probably give him a better sense of Security, but also put me in on the receiving end of my own weapon… LMAO.

I must admit that my once nimble feeling SIG 552 now feels like I’m packing two guns, not just one. So if I loan out the launcher I can put my Tactical “Forward Handleâ€

Most of your eye-glasses won't chip or crack from 280 fps (factory). But 350, well - you guys can do the product test. My guess is that they will protect against an on-coming hit, but not a ricochet.

Yeah, the temptation to remove the mask comes from:
1- The lenses fogging up.
2- Itching.
3- Overheat
4- Sweating up a storm

There was a civil law case they put on TV in China (all new to them), of a group of co-workers going for a weekend outing to a paintball field (yea I know). Anyhow, one dufuss decided to take off his mask for whatever reason. Then moments after that he got nailed right in one eye and went blind. Then he had to quit his job, and he decided to use the new laws to sue for damages against the field and his co-workers. He didn't win, but it's sad to see someone losing eyesight over a second of un-wise decision ...:(

You guys can play each man for himself, or hostage rescue, or the scenario you had.

A good every man for himself scenario is "Chase the bag man"

Give a guy a briefcase full a funny money and give him a head start.
Th rest of you guys gotta get him, and stop each other at the same time...Great fun...as an extra bonus put in the briefcase a note that says "Boom! Youre dead!"...this case is boobytrapped..
Or if youre the bag man and you get hit...scream and fling the open case in the air showering the woods with bills...or if near a creek or cliff toss it over in a last defiant act...:P

Another fun scenario is to run a terminator game. One lucky guy gets to be the terminator and can sustain multiple hits...provided he can take it...you guys gotta hit and run and not get hit.

no, what you do in the briefcase is load up a mp5k into it (with a trigger on the handle, i forgot how to rig it) and watch him blow the others away. Then join up next round.

They wouldn't "DO" at all. Trust me.

It doesn't matter HOW CAREFUL you are, when the BBs start flying, all your "good intentions" will be out the window in a heartbeat. I play with a pretty rule-regulated crew in the MAA (Minnesota Airsoft Association) and we've had people get shot at point blank range, had people get teeth shot out, etc. And head shots DO happen... even when you're making an effort "not to point the gun at the head."

Let me just say...

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!

I can't stress this one enough: SHOP GLASSES ARE NOT ANSI RATED TO TAKE A BALLISTIC IMPACT!! Honestly guys, you spent $300 (or more) on a nice airsoft gun and you're not willing to shell out $30 for a decent set of Paintball goggles?? Tell me, is your eyesight only worth $4 (shop goggle cost) to you?

Let me tell you, it's gonna cost you a heck of a lot more for eye surgery, or a good seeing eye dog when you take a hit to the eyeball.

Ski Goggles, Shop Goggles, Sunglasses and Shooting Glasses are NOT suitable for playing airsoft. They either FAIL the ballistic impact testing, or they don't provide complete wrap around eye protection. By wrap around I mean the protection is constructed in such a fashion that a BB cannot fit between the skin and the eye protection itself.

Your average, run of the mill paintball goggle/mask combo will work wonders and protect your vision. Also, most tactical goggles by Bolle will suffice as well.

Really, trust me on this, a few hours fun is NOT worth a lifetime of blindness.

Getting off my soapbox now.

Thanks guys...... I love the gaming idea's you all presented. You can bet that I'm going to try out each one. I especially liked the sound of the briefcase mayhem scenario.... That one sounded great. Might need to substitute the paper money with a cash pool to add a touch more realism to the game. Winner keeps the loot...:P

Rook:

Your points are fully noted and much appreciated. I'm going to check out local paint ball supplier to see if I can obtain more comfortable goggles. The full face masks I have right now are for Airsoft use, but use a metal mesh net on the goggles and are somewhat uncomfortable with eye glasses.

Do you have any field recommendations for those of us who wear eye glasses, i.e., mask make/model.. maybe even a picture..

I don't know if you want to spend the money -- but Bolle makes a sports glasses kinda like Kareem of the Lakers used to wear which I'm sure are impact proof. But it will be faster to get Lasek surgery inside of 7 days. PS -- that's what I did. I got Lasek.:)

Rook/Tiger and other would be ex-4eyes.;)

I had it done for 500 bucks in Thailand (yeah I know. But they actually have brand new state of the art hospitals w/US trained Dr.s).

But last year in Hawaii (no cheap place) -- the price had dropped to 700. Check your area -- I'm sure it's getting competitive.

Trust me -- I had in my lifetime spend thousands of dollars on spec's. So, that was the best 500 bucks ever spent (well, there was that time with the limo and the hook....Nah nah nah:lol: ).

Afterwards (like in a few hours) -- it was like: I CAN SEE. I CAN SEE AGAIN !!!!! I was blind and now I see...;)

Personally, I own a JT Spectra mask/Goggle combo. The Spectra series has a ridgid mask that can be removed in a few minutes if need be. Avoid the cheap K-mart JT goggle/mask sets. They're quite uncomfortable. Your best bet is a paintball field that sells equipment so you can try the different styles on for fit.

Also, JT sells a venting fan for the Spectra series that just snaps on to the top of the mask.

Now, I actually bought a couple small fans and wired it up to a battery holder and switch and attached it to the top of my mask. See, the issue with many paintball goggles Isn't tha fact that the goggles themselves fog, it's the fact that they cause condensation to form on your glasses. At least that's my problem.

For anti-fog issues, look for a product called "Cat P!ss" or "Cat Crap" or some derivitive. I've used it a few times and I NEVER had my glasses fog up while using it. Try checking local sporting goods stores and ask about anti-fog products.

MAA: Lasic? What did they hit you for that process? I've been thinking about it but it's pretty expensive from what I recall.

Thats Awesome MAA...

I've thought about it too, but been somewhat afraid of the procedure. Some comments I heard over time was that you get what is refereed to as "Star Vision" at night and may still require glasses later if your vision changes.

Have you heard any of these stories?

Lasik eye surgery is becoming a lot cheaper. Up here in Canada it used to be $1500.00 PER EYE! I think it's come down to $750.00 or so per eye now.

One of the warnings they give you is that there is no guarantee that your vision will stay 20/20 the rest of your life. It could go back to the way it was before the surgery at any time, but a friend of mine got the surgery done 5 years ago before becoming a cop, and he's been fine so far.

I started wearing glasses when I was 13 and contact lenses when I was 17. I've considered the surgery, but just felt I could live without it until I have a ton of disposable money on hand.;)

Hey Tiger have a great time airsofting! Really like that "Bagman" scenario.

Yeah, Kevin, that's exactly the same as it was for me! Nowadays I could afford the surgery (Translation = my company will pay for all of it up to $5000!!!), but it's more a fear that something may go wrong. Not that my eyes are any more precious than anyone else's, it's just doing what I do for a living makes me scared to f ' with my eyes.

Well, you've got to do some research to see who's good in your area.

The Thai Dr. who operated on me had done over 1000 surgeries before me.

The only comment I can make is that my vision was much better just 3 hours after the surgery. And it got better over 6 month to a year.

Sometimes when I'm tired, my operated eye loses some sharpness; other times -- it's like a hawk's eye that I can see so sharply. Don't know what's behind this. On the avearge -- I see very well now and haven't need glasses. I had only one eye done (it's for when I get old man's vision later that I will won't need reading glasses. Based on Doc's recommendations).

But it's been 2 years -- I have no ill effects to report.

BTW -- the operation can be performed again for most people if necessary. For me -- again it was the best 500 bucks not spend on hookers.

Tiger: At night some light is defracted. This is astigmatism.
But I still don't need glasses whereas there was no way I can even drive at night w/o glasses prior to the surgery.

I thought this might be a good place to post this.
When I wear a full face mask, I can't properly aim as the mask prevents me from lining up the sights. What should I do?

Depending on the gun, if you decide to add a red dot sight you'll likely also want to add a riser to the sight rail you mount the RD sight to, so it provides enough room for you to see while wearing a mask.

heh, But honestly MOST airsoft players that wear a full mask don't use the sights on their guns. :)

You learn to do what they call "instinctive" or barrel point shooting.

Meaning, you fire a couple shots, correct slightly, fire a couple more, until you're hitting your target. After a while it all becomes second nature. You end up holding your gun about at your neck/chin and not your cheek. Any higher than your chin and the ridgid mask will interfear. JT does make a flexible full face mask, but I haven't tested these so i can't say for certain how much protection they'll give in an airsoft game.

The other option is to use a PB goggle, but remove the rigid facemask and wear a nomex balaclava.

The problem with that is that it doesn't really protect you much from a shot to the face, and if you get hit in the tooth, you'll likely still take damage. We saw this firsthand last spring. A guy got hit at about 15-20 feet on an exposed tooth. He was laying prone and firing, and got hit when the target retaliated. The tooth was shattered.

Needless to say, I put the rigid face guard back on my goggles at that point. :D

We Survived!

We made it back guys, eyes, ears and teeth still intact. Our 1st day sucked badly because of bad weather. A cold front plastered us with heavy rain. A few degrees colder and we would have had some snow, which would have been much more acceptable. Even knowing it was freezing cold and raining like hell, we decided to give it a try.

We ended up freezing our butts off. I realized just how much I needed gloves when I practically required a pry bar just to release my (Almost frozen solid) fingers from the gun grip. One BB hit to the knuckle would surly caused them to explode into fragmented little pieces. If that were not bad enough, my eyeglasses would immediately steam up because of the cold wet clothing and high degree of steam being generated from body heat.

The following day was GREAT! We jammed back up the ridge and played 5-10 games that varied from capture the flag to every man for himself. We had some really great 15-35 yard battle engagements and marveled at the wall of BBS being shot. I took plenty of hits on the forehead, fingers, back of the ear, etc. This would not have been survivable without full-face mask (Thanks for the advise guys). Fortunately, all the adrenalin easily masked most of the pain during the firefights, except for the finger/knuckle hits. A bit lip, a few choice words, a fast retreat and knuckle massage normally followed those hits. I’m getting some gloves next time. (LOL)

I’m happy to report that the 165 BB Shower performed flawlessly. I t does not have the range of the 24 BB Shower, but will score an almost guaranteed hit at close in range if used wisely. I enjoyed both grenades, but actually liked the added range of the 24 BB shower a little more.

I’ve attached a .zip file with a few pictures. Please note that these images were all “Posedâ€
