The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So, I'm new here but not new to airsoft- I've finally scored a set of Spatcave armour and MAA fatigues to go with the Pulse Rifle, after long years of wasting money on fripperies such as food, rent, diesel etc ;)

However, one of the things that's 'taxing' me a bit is the VP70....Out of stock everywhere, and generally not that super-duper for the rough and tumble of the all-weather skirmisher that I am.
As far as I'm aware there isn't an M39 GBB to be had, so I'm somewhat stymied.

SO: What other currently available GBB would the sage council of this board consider 'futuristic' enough looking to grace the side of a Colonial Marine in absence of the VP70?

My thoughts were split somewhat between either:

The WE Springfield XDM Compact- which looks somewhat like the Halo M9C in certain lights, and would certainly be big enough to chamber the 10mm Caseless round from the Pulse Rifle, as it's the .45ACP slide.....The big advantage is I've already got one in the gunroom

Or

TM's FN Five-Seven, which again is a suitibly futuristic looking gun and does have the whole 'Battlestar Galatica' Sci fi provenance

Thoughts?
Comments?
Abuse? ;)

In AvP 2, the pc game, the sidearm looks to be either a
SOCOM or USP with the under barrel LAM unit attached.

I always thought it fit the look of the universe just fine.

The XD is okay and the 5-7 is cool too. Tough choice.

The recent Colonial Marines game went with the technical manual M4A3 which is a spot on copy of the 1911 with wooden grips. It also appears to have some type of rail in the game but definitely not a modern picatinny for a laser sight. I'm all for upholding the idea that the old workhorse is still reliable even 200 years into the future :P . I recently bought a KJW 1911 (for my Vietnam kit) due to its reputation for reliability and accuracy amongst my group who have had theirs for 2+ years.

Any of those mentioned would be fine, but we don't have rigid rules on the look of what you want to wear/carry, so go with what you think looks 'good'. 8)

You may find this useful for carrying at Drops:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11540

But being a skirmisher, you're probably already doing that lot. 8)

All good.....And I too have a 1911 for the 'Nam kit with some real wood grips.

Looks like the XDM-C has the edge (mainly because I don't have any other loadouts it goes with) ;)

As has been said, anything you like will do!
Hick's shotgun was an antique - My non-Veep sidearm ( If I ever get it back! ) is a nickel plated Beretta 92F with custom cherrywood grips.

Lose the nickel-plated sissy-gun and get yerself a Glock [/Tommy Lee Jones]

But I hear you.... Anything now-ish could be a future heirloom, in the Hicks Family tradition.

I had similar thoughts on a suitable GBB pistol in the absence of a decent VP70. I went for the Beretta PX4 clone by WE in the end.

I really liked the design anyway & it performs well & fits the bill in terms of futuristic looks for me.

Cheers.

John. :)

Vas uses a 1911 right? I think a TM PX4 would look the business too, and it's a good solid piece.

Yeah, that's definitely a 1911 type pistol.

Given that then one of the MEU models (TM or WE) might also be a good choice... Or even one of the 5.1 Hi-Capa models maybe.

Cheers.

John. :)

Interesting- no holster and the slide release is on the same side as the ejection port....Not the greatest model. ;)
But most definately a basic 1911 in every way, apart from the slightly odd frame 'accoutrement' (can't even call it a rail from the looks)

On reflection, with the 'family heirloom' thought in mind, I'll be running my WE Browning Hipower with walnut grips....Plus it's as close to Vaz's S&W M39 in appearance as I'm ever likely to get in a workable skirshable sidearm.

The pistols in the game have a bracket under the front, as seen in that pic, so it might be a mounting point for a solid plastic/metal tac holster, like this one?

http://www.fobusholster.com/products/GL ... 7-331.html

Just my thoughts.

More likely they simply use the typical game magic to stick to the thigh- much like slung weapons stick to your shoulder without slings in many games.

Probably from the same game pixies that allow one to 'absorb' ammo into your inventory by sucking it up through your feet and allow you to carry infinite magazines with a finite amount of ammo. ;)

And allow you to carry six rifles, three shotguns, assorted other weapons and still be able to run.

i believe a trekky would say it has a 'magnetronic adhesion area' holding it in place. i love the way Kirk just slaps a phaser against his hip and it stays there

That was probably just gravitational attraction from his enourmous corset-restrained belly.

There appears to be some kind of "clip" attached around the slide of that 1911, which is holding it to a set of leg straps.

Funnily enough, I just bought myself a full metal KWC 1911 CO2 gun.

there is a grip adaptor for the 1911 that adds a bar parrelle to the slide that allows you just to hock it in to your waste band.

Clipdraw
http://www.clipdraw.com/store/index.php ... how_detail

As you can see that's on the right side only and designed for tucking into the waistband in lieu of a CCW holster.

I think- in this case- we can write off the 1911's attachement to the thigh of in game as classic 'magical game physics' and move on ;)
