Hi Building a pulse rifle and i reconfigured the battery pack into a stick battery. Well now test firing the thompson and the battery gets very hot. I hadnt charged the battery in a long time. Could it be defective?

They can get hot during carging, but getting hot during use could be due to excessive current drain, e.g a short somewhere i the wiring of the gun. Given the usual "what last changed" diagnostic, chekc that there the reconfiguration of the batterynis good, the check the gun wiring to see if any wires have become trapped/ pinched or touching the gun body.

As a diagnostic i'v run a length of insulating tape down wires before just to see if there is a break, often its only exposed when under pressure, e.g. when the gun body is put back together.

As you say, it could be a defective battery. In my experience an old battery that is duff does take a charge very well the first place (usually charging very quickly).

How does the gun sound firing? quick and crisp or a bit laboured as if working against something or like the battery is going flat?

You say you reconfigured it? If you broke the battery down into cells and resoldered it then be aware that you need to do bloody good solder joints, otherwise it will get hot like this.

It might be worth breaking it down again and checking the voltage of each cell to make sure they are similar and then do some damn good soldering. If this doesn't help then I'd recommend you just buy a stick battery - I know I can't solder well enough to build batteries!

Thanks guys all very good ideas, I did have to extend the wiring and resolder the positive lead when i first redid the batt. I test fired it yesterday and it seemed to slow down quite a bit very rapidly and like i said got very hot. Think I may just get a stick batt. Im not gonna do any airsofting so i dont really need it to fire but it would be nice. Any good battery brands to get?

You need to get a voltmeter and make sure your battery is putting out the correct voltage, if it's putting out to much voltage it can cause the motor to spin to fast but also cause weird resistance on the line and thus heat.

Personally, however; I recommend grabbing a LifePo from airsoft-club.com a 1000mhA 9.9v (which the gun should be able to handle) will work fine, though I do recommend a mosfet for all guns -- makes the trigger last a LOT longer.

But DON'T modify Lithium batteries - if you make them overheat, they get nasty!

on top of that, if you haven't got a ballance charger you will need one and preferably a fire bag just in case. If you arn't planning to play airsoft games with it, it may be ott.

MiDri, what are airsoft club life or ordering and delivery? looks quit an intersting site, prices look wuite good on kit there.

LifePo are not Lipo -- still don't recommend modding them, but they are not explosive.



Takes about 2 weeks from order to get stuff, always top quality stuff from what I've gotten, they're in Hong Kong I believe.
