The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Since I have a con coming up, and nothing real new and exciting to display at the Propatorium, I decided to
work on my Pulse Rifle.

This rifle build has been stagnant for about a year and a half. One of the last things holding me up is my
inability to figure out how to engineer a piece to attach the pump grip to the M870 pump arms/mechanism.

And after trying 3 different ways to make it work and failing, I pretty much gave up for a while.

But, tonight I went back to it. It's amazing how all the parts you oh so carefully put away can get scattered
across an entire room. :)

What's in it...

Tokyo Marui M1A1 Thompson
Tanaka gas shell M870
Matsuo Barrel vent
Dean O stock (Been hoarding this since... 2004-05?)
Matsuo cold cast shrouds
Tommin barrel block
Real Steel Spas cage & pump grip (Been hoarding this since... 2002? )
Misc. metal parts.
MNoble sling (not pictured)
Mystery GEM shot counter I've been hoarding since 2002.

My previous airsoft PR's all had solid GL sections. I wanted a rackable one, and had originally purcahsed a nice Maruzen,
but I could never figure out how to run the gas in the PR, so I sold it and used the cash to help pay for the Tanaka.

I originally was going to use the GWII/Rook style locking bolt for the stock, but frankly... it's a pain in the ass to install.
Instead I used Matsuo's method which is soooooooooo much easier to do. I used a nylon lock nut for the push button,
and put it in backwards so it didn't recess inside the body of the Thompson too much. I may switch back. We'll have to
see how I like it the way it is.

The shrouds are nice, but I cracked the thin section of the counter side when I was test fitting the shoruds (doh!), so
now I'm not entirely sure how I'll reenforce it. I'll figure something out eventually. Hopefully before I figure out how to
engineer the racking bits. That's only taken almost 2 years.

The Spas cage is cut funny on the side, because of the way the Maruzen shotgun (and the racking arms) aligned in
the cage. You can't really notice it unless you're looking for it.

I noticed tonight that I need to pull the 870 (yet again! What is it, 10 times I did that already tonight?) and trim a bit
more metal off the tail end of the Spas cage because it blocks the function of the safety push button. It's always on fire now. :)

Worked on it for 2.5 hours to get it to this stage. Not finished by a long shot... but a lot closer than it was earlier today. :)

Just FYI, the thing beats the weight of my last Airsoft PR by a good 5 lbs or so. I'm guessing it's currently about 15-18 lbs
or so. My last one was about 12. Heavy beasts! The mostly metal M870 is the reason.

And, since this thread is useless without pics... here's some pics!

Get is done Russ!

My only recommendation is using the marui barrel and extending it.

It looks so much better!

I got my barrel end ground down, but haven't extended it yet...

I installed the Tommin barrel block quite some time ago. In the time since, methods for turning down the existing Marui barrel have come to light. 20/20 hindsight and all that... :)

@Wildone: I believe I have a schematic parts breakdown that was supplied by another board
member. I'll need to dig it up, assuming I didn't lose it in the HDD crash. Basically, all I did was use
that schematic and went from there. When you go to cut the barrel and mag tube down, CUT THEM
LONG!

Remember, you can always remove more material, but you can't add it back on after removing
it.

I wanted to retain the screw threaded mag tube front like Dean O. did with his 'ol Maruzen, but
opted for instead just making a wooden plug and added a small screw to hold the plug in place.
Since the magazine tube is threaded at the receiver end, putting the spring and follower in place is
VERY easy and still functional.

I retained the pump grip safety and trigger safety. Some choose to remove them.
I figure since it was present on the film used weapon, it's okay to leave in place. :)

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Russ

cheers for that, did you have to cut into the m870s body at all to get to fit in the spas cage?
