Brilliant thanks for that.

Mine measures around 112mm and the original file is around 105mm, versus your measurment of 107.95mm. So the original is a little small and mine is a little too big! :D

Next time I will print at 105% :D

Picked up the 5 humbrol colours for the armour, made up a test strip and got four of the colours matched, left the grey to do myself.

Testing out the colours they come up well, will trial some weathering over the top to tone them down.

Tried annealing the aluminium with a small gas torch, wow what a difference! Would have been nice to do that from the start. Might have to redo some parts (again) to get a better shape to them, picking up some more aluminium soon to do the chest and back plate, been a bit of a wait to get to them.

looks awesome! check out the neckline on the screen used sets. its high, and goes streight across. lots of makers have a distinctive, rounded "scooped" neckline. youll notice especially when Hicks or Hudson are siting down the on-screen necklines are about an inch higher, and just give the armor a look more like giant football pads. the scooped necks came about because Dietricks stunt armor had it and thats the armor that went into circulation early on. from when she gets pulled upward by a xeno. screen used armor was 15" measured at the center. I think the pepakura files have that scooped neck, I think its 13".
you probably know all that but i just wanted to make sure you didnt notice it after you cut your patterns out.

Thanks for the info, I don't know much of this stuff, learning things as I go :).

The templates I'm using originated from bigbisont's drawings in another thread. I've imported them into a CAD program so I can print to scale across multiple pages. The neckline looks to have a slight scoop to it, will tell more once I've dished the aluminium to start with.

I think I saw the pattern on metal that you had made and saw the back cuirass plate and jumped the gun because I have a pet peeve of low collars. Now I see that's Bigbisonts and martinr1000s collaboration. You're gonna have a good time with this build.

I figured the chest piece would be the hardest and I'm finding it tricky! Main thing is it's just overall too big, the length of the chest piece on the template is about 17"/480mm. I'm going to print out the template smaller, around 15" and go from there.

Started over on the chest plate with the template at 86% of the original. It has come up well, or at least as good as I'd like it for now :). Back was done at the same size.

after matt clearcoat you can use water mixed with black acrylic as a wash, or pigment powder, or stove polish.
Bigbisonts video is pretty thorough:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvEfoOjj9x4

And heres a Nickatron build with some good weathering using pigment powder.

Big thanks for the help getting me this far :).

hunterkiller86, thanks, it was not the plan to do this! I thought I might just be a Hadley's Hope civilian who picked up a helmet and a rifle just to survive.

I have several items to try for the weathering, but looks like the pigment powder will be good for this project and others.

Been pondering camo options. I have several sets of camo already, Multicam, Flecktarn, Auscam, US woodlands. It would be nice to have something accurate but trying to keep the budget low. The Polish desert looks good, still about $200AUD for me to get a set though.

I am having some crazy thoughts like getting the proper pattern digitally printed and sewing it myself. I have a sewing machine and some experience at least :). Even crazier I thought I could try stenciling the pattern onto some tan/white clothing to at least get pants and the sleeves of a shirt done. Even bleaching some old worn out cams and using that as a base.

I think I'll experiment a bit and see what happens!

I thought about that too - https://www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/880468-sci-fi-alien-marine-camo-by-ricraynor
I however, *don't* have any experience sewing sooo ... yeah. probably not a thing [for me].

Ha ha yes, but you might know someone who can knock out some basic pants and a shirt :).

I've looked at that Spoonflower pattern and it's a bit off, I've traced and coloured a pic of the real fabric and can use that to get some material made up which would be more accurate. Still would need maybe 5 metres and price is around $45AUD per metre.

Theres a guy on facebook, something farms, cant remember the exact name, a cosplayer, he had spoonflower make him an accurate pattern of his own design, they'll print anything if you send them the file. not sure I'll have time to track him down this week but at least thats a lead. I have screenshots buried somewhere, it looked great.

I have ordered a sample from spoonflower, will see how it looks. I have found a local (Australian) printer that is about half the price but minimum is 10m. I think I need 3-4m for what I want so maybe I could sell the remainder.

I've wiped over the armour with a diluted black acrylic paint and it looks good apart from bringing out the brush detail in the sand coloured areas.

I've started do do some customisation too.
A razor on the chest - been a callsign/symbol I've used for years.
'Pull to Eject' on the crotch guard - was searching for caution signs and this made me laugh.
Kanji meaning 'origins' - From Blade Runner, my other favourite movie (may have to carry Deckard's blaster as a sidearm on this! :D).

Paint done on the locator and mag. I will do a hollow version down the track and use a 3 digit led display to do real numbers with a curved lens on top.
