Post subject:  2019 DragonCon Parade List [CANCELLED]
Who would like to be the Parade Organizer? I've stepped down.

This person will be responsible for the Parade Participants Sign-Up

Must Contact DragonCon Parade Organizers to let them know how many ribbons they will need.

I've talked to the organizer already, she is holding spots. For now.

The Parade Organizer must pick up the ribbons and hand them out.

They must also make sure everyone is aware of where and what time to meet at the Staging Area the day of the Parade.

They must also get everyone set up in lines, etc. at the Parade Staging Area.

Due to a miscommunication with the Dragoncon Parade Organizers, the orginal 25 ribbons allocated to the Legacy, are to be split between the Legacy and the Sci Fi Military Color Guard (the former USCM Color Guard).
15 ribbons are to be made available to the Legacy, and more will come available as various groups return ribbons. Any questions, please go ahead and ask me.

DragonCon Parade Organizers allotted a total of 25 Parade Ribbons to be used for the Color Guard and AL. A miscommunication did indeed arise, the former USCM Color Guard has morphed into the Sci-Fi Military Color Guard. The Parade Organizers were being generous with the 25 Parade spots as last year, we had what, 11?

In the past, I've reserved 55 and used them all up. However, as most of you are all aware, the Parade Participation has been dwindling every year for the past several years.

I've returned 30+ every year for 3-4 years.

Yes, there was some confusion regarding what was originally one group, but has since spun off into two separate groups. It is what it is.

No body is happy about it and I've heard from many involved and probably will hear from more.

I am trying to procure more Parade Ribbons, if it's even possible. But, if you look at the turnout from the AL over the past two years, 15 would be enough. The late sign-ups, differences in opinions, etc. have all contributed to what we have today.

I have hopes the USCM / Aliens Parade Group can be rebuilt into it's former glory. (60 I believe is our record?)

But for this year, there's 15 spots available for the Aliens Legacy. Again, I'm trying to get more and should I be successful, I hope that they are used and I don't have to return them.

That would be embarrassing!

Rex, I would worry about more Ribbons when people fill up the current slots.

Ill be taking photos and maybe video. Ill be wearing my dropship pilot flightsuit so will be in costume, but given that Ill be floating, Ive put myself last on the list. If we use up all the bands, Im happy to be bumped and shoot from the sidelines.

To be clear then, if one wishes to represent the AL/Colonial Marines in the new Sci Fi Military Color Guard, they should apply for a slot reserved for the USCM in that group, not here... correct?

Yes, it is! Especially with the Grand Marshall of the Parade this year. I can't reveal who, but it ties in with Science Fiction!

Sorry not to make it more grim but I am officially cancelling going to Dragoncon this year. For those who do not know I had a complete lower right bicep tear/rupture. I had surgery last Wednesday. There is just no way I will be healed enough to try and swim thru the crowds.

We’re only about a month away now and all we have is a handful of participants so far? I hate to quote Carter Burke, but this is not only grim, it’s pathetic. The last time I made to Dragon Con we had like 60 people in the parade representing the AL and Colonial Marines. Maybe I haven’t been keeping up on current events, but... what the HELL?

Change is inevitable and sometimes necessary for things to move forward but when something that was good goes the other way it is truly regrettable. One can only hope this is a temporary phase and that things turn around at some point. I honestly don’t know when or how often I’ll be able to attend Dragon Con in the future, but I’m looking forward to seeing you all there this year. Let’s have ourselves a blast!

Very good points you make Dru. Why the drop in Parade Attendance?

It's something we've long discussed - Is it:

1) Nahhhhh, I'm tired of getting up early to do the Parade. I'm going to stay in bed and sleep.
2) DragonCon is just getting too expensive. I'm not coming.
3) Something else?
