The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

And with the push of a digital button, my ticket for D*Con 2015 is now purchased.

A few people this year asked me why there was no raffle for D*Con 2014. The answer is quite simple, there was no one who volunteered for it.

2013-2014 was a bit of a difficult year for me. I feel as though I let a lot of you down... I left for a while, I didn't participate in the organization of anything... except perhaps the Colour Party... and in consequence, I denied myself the usual yearly promotion that I normally afford myself. But, as a few of you have noticed, I'm so much more "relaxed" now, and I'm fully committed to being a facilitator for our next Atlanta drop.

Everything that needs to happen at D*Con is an orchastrated efforted shared amongst many people... from the one person organizing the Colonial Marine dinner, down to each volunteer to staff the fan table. All of which can go to hell if we don't pull up our breeches and cooperate with each other to make it all a success.

That being said...

Colonial Marine events for Dragon*Con 2015:

The Aliens Legacy fan table and staffing
The Colonial Marine Breakfast
The Dragon*Con Parade
The Colonial Marine Colour Guard
The Colony Sweep
The USCM Raffle
The Colonial Marine Dinner

Ideally, we would need for each of these happenings to have yearly volunteers to act as "Department Head" to organize and recruit assistance as needed.

The Aliens Legacy fan table and staffing
This post is staffed by Mike Rizzuto and will be assisted by Triumph and Paul Maitland
To secure a fan table(s) and draw from our local membership volunteers to staff the table. Staff should be able to chat and discuss the purpose and aim of our group with walk-ins in an informative and cheerful manner. Minimum recommended staff per hour is three, including at least one person in unioform and one person in armour.

The Colonial Marine Breakfast
This post is staffed by Outcry27 but can be relinquished upon request
To organize donations of breakfast foods, most usually cornbread, to br offered to participants before the parade. Each breakfast participant will receive one raffle ticket for the USCM raffle which will follow later.

The Dragon*Con Parade
This post is staffed by Hollis DZC
To register our group and coordinate with D*C parade staff to obtain our parade bracelets. This year, I strongly recommend that whoever volunteers for this position should insist to the D*C parade staff that we are a stand-alone group and should not be mixed with AVP.

The Colonial Marine Colour Guard
This post is staffed by MSgt Baldwin and assisted by Triumph
To organize a competent marching troop in Service C uniforms to carry our colours at the head of the parade, and to raise funds to suppply the Colour Guard with needed kit to accomplish this duty.

The Colony Sweep
This post is staffed by Outcry27 and assisted by Triumph
To organize and lead a crew of Marines to perform the yearly duties to rid the Atlanta Colony of alien infestation.

The USCM Raffle
This post is staffed by MSgt Baldwin and assisted by Boltrig
To collect donations of props, uniform pieces and other Aliens related memorabilia to be given away free. Each person attending the raffle will receive one raffle ticket.

The Colonial Marine Dinner
This post is staffed by Triumph
To organize the yearly dinner, to secure a location to dine and to collect funds to pay the restaurant. This post is traditionally held by the previous year's MVM. For example, the 2014 MVM should organize the 2015 dinner.

So as to not oblige the usual volunteers to do all of the work, I propose that those who head each of these tasks work with partners. I will let any of you volunteer for the above positions. however, any of us who have previously manned these "departments" will have first pick of taking back their old jobs.

And so, the D*C 2015 Ready Line begins with its attendees... let's hope for a bigger turnout than this year.

Please add your name to the list if your attending:

1. MSgt Baldwin
2.

Already put down for UKCM 2015. I can also do the dinner again. I am in touch with Pitty Pat's right now. If anyone else would like to step in just let me know but I can let them know we are interested again.

Thanks!

Greg

I will again take over the Parade organization. I will also stress that we are "Science Fiction Military" NOT Active Military.

We discussed that at DragonCon. Can we give them something like a press release?

Thanks!

There is also the fact that because they believe we are active military that they put us at the start, I would suggest to say that some are active some are ex some are civilians etc

Re: Commentary being made during the appearance of the USCM colour party
on the Dragon*Con parade video.

Dear friends at Dragon*Con,

I am the USCM Colour Party Sergeant; you see me bearing the sabre, and calling out drill instructions.

Could you kindly PLEASE stop calling us, the USCM colour party, active military? Especially not "active U.S. military"? This is not true, and we don't understand why your commentators say this yearly.

This year the colour party was comprised of:
One US Navy sailor,
One US Army reservist,
One former Canadian Army reservist,
One former Royal Army reservist,
One former French Navy sailor and,
Three civilians; two Americans and one British.

We do not wish to be mistaken for active military, we are costume enthusiasts wearing costumes inspired by the film "Aliens". During Dragon*Con, we do not represent our respective armed forces, we are there to show our costumes, represent our fandom, give a good show for the parade, and mostly, have fun.

We thank you in advance for your understanding.

Best regards,
Dom Baldwin
Kris, I assumed you were a Reservist, my aplogies if this was an error. Sean, I assumed that you are a sailor, again... apologies if this is incorrect.

Jan Price wrote:
Hi Dom,

My apologies. Several years ago, I was told that the color guard was comprised of active and reserve duty military. We've never received any updated info to say that was no longer true.

I am truly sorry if we offended anyone. I have been putting the information in the commentary script each year to ensure we were appropriately recognizing the members of the color guard. It will be
removed.

Again, my apologies,
Jan Price
Director, Dragon Con Parade

Brian Richardson wrote:
Dom: thanks for the information, I'm very sorry we got this wrong. We had a note in our rundown that the group contained active military, so that's why it was mentioned in our commentary. I want to make sure we get this right, so we should make sure it's not in the parade rundown notes for 2015. I want the parade coverage to represent everyone properly, so thanks for letting me know what needs to be fixed.

MSgt Baldwin wrote:
Hi Jan,

We have no issue if you mention that the colour party is comprised of active and former servicemen from around the world, as well as civilians. This would be much more accurate.

Regards,
Dom Baldwin

I pretty much ended up becoming the de facto coordinator of the colony sweep this year... But it seems to have worked out fairly well. :) I'd be happy to take on the role officially for 2015.
Put me down for breakfast, too, unless someone else would like to wrangle that.

I'm sure having a "Xeno liason" would be quite helpful, given how few of us understand the Sweep from your perspective!

Sean and I have talked about future ideas to 'enhance' the sweep. I volunteer to be his assistant coordinator. During the slow season after the new year, I intend to post an instructional vid on how I am rigging my armor and pulse rife with sound FX.

As for the dinner, I contacted gman on how I may proceed in assisting him or taking over the duty.

I am also coordinating with Paul, Mike (Hunterkiller) and Rebecca on future fan table supplies.

And as usual, I'll be working with Dom to further improve the CG.

I'm not going to volunteer to run it (as I don't know if I will be able to make it to 2015); however, I am more than happy to collect and donate a few autographs from some celebs if I can :-)

Just keep me posted if anyone steps up to co-ordinate the raffle ...

There will be three ways to donate for the raffle:
1. Mail them to me in Canada.
2. Mail then to Samantha in the UK.
3. Bring them to the raffle.
