Flag kit will be sent to Cpl Smith.

Here's an idea... Rather than our usual salute to the flag, how would you guys feel about the playing of The Star Spangled Banner? The motions are the same, we just keep the present arms a little longer. I think it would look great. We could coordinate with the parade organizer lady to give us our cue to start and have Paul play the anthem with his sound system.

I feel it would take to long for one

Seems like a nice gesture, but logistics to set that up is my concern. Perhaps just keep the salute is fine.

Dom, I appreciate the idea... :)

Would anyone have a problem with ladies in the Honour guard wearing flat shoes? I know some would like to take part but doing it in heels is putting them off

Agree on the salute and see no problems with flat shoes. Honestly that is what I thought they wore. I know how much I hate the boots could not imagine heels but I am in the back for a reason.

Thanks!

Greg

Why would that even be a problem?

I was just chatting to some of the ladies and they thought it might, I assured them it wont and my question was to prove that :D

What ladies are we talking about, here?

All of them lol, but in serious one or two stated that its a pain doing it in heels and I think more power to us if we have more females in the honour guard

All ladies are ESPECIALLY welcome in the honor guard! Walking in flats are fine. They should just resemble standard black military dress shoes. If they want to do heels, that would be awesome too. Just be sure to have a Charlie dress uniform as well. I thought we had a female volunteer to carry the US flag this year. I'm all for that.

The shoes I have are a very small heel. For me, flats are a little more difficult to find that will go with the uniform. Just as long as I don't have to be on the bitter outside and make a wide turn in double time, I am fine. I am going to look for a better pair of shoes this year or take the ones I have to be resoled. I think that will help greatly.

The one thing I would ask is that remember that we don't have as long a gait as you gentlemen do in our skirts. Stride length is more of an issue for me than heels.

Then, I would move that you carry the USA flag. You can set your own pace and we'll follow suit.

Cool idea, however, I believe her uniform is UKCM with Union Jack. Sorry, but that makes a difference in bearing the US flag.

Does she have a US shirt? or can someone lend her theirs? It would be an easy fix.

Another option is to carry the USCM flag, also in the centre. The USCM flag is the honour spot, IMO.

Though I am both a happy citizen of the USA (and of Ireland, but that is another story), I am a member of the UKCM foreign Legion and XO of the west coast division. It would be a great honor to carry to the American Flag, but that would go against my involvement in the group. I could flip out the patches (which I think I have a set), but carrying the USCM flag would be an amazing honor.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

Hey I carried the Canadian flag and was proud to do so so don't let that stop you

Post subject:  Re: Official Color/Honor Guard Thread

Essentially, we need to decide who will carry the UKCM flag (Kris, Samantha or Rebecca), who will carry the Canada flag (I will be the colour sergeant, so, I can't... but I would love to have Kris do it again) and who will carry the USA flag (Tony or Rebecca who can flip her flag for the parade); Jerome will carry his own flag (please be sure to have one).

My suggestion:

Rebecca, USA
Dom, colour sergeant
Samantha, UKCM
Tony, USCM
Kris, Canada
Jerome, France

I'd like to hear all of your inputs.

I don't understand was Reb means by "going against involvement in the group".

I wasn't attempting to create a crisis, it was just a 'detail point' and perhaps a protocol no-no.

Perhaps double sided tape with US flag over her existing UK flag just for the parade... She doesn't have to re-stitch patches. Even the UKCM name tape on front can pass. It's hardly noticeable.

NOTE** Can we get more volunteers for Color Guard? We seem a bit light this year! And we need banner bearers. (The new banner is gonna rock!!)
