The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

UKCM RULES!!!

F**kin' A! 8)

Hmm, just got up, had first cup of coffee, so shall attempt a little review of the weekend. :)

Newbie UKCM First Drop Review!

Edit: I was going to type all about the journey, but let's just say it was a lot worse getting to Glasgow than it was coming back home.
Also, this has been written in two bits, with collecting of parcels (VP70 and a Matsuo stock) between the two.

Saturday:

Once we'd arrived and got geared up, we found our table in the dealer/show area, which was an ice skating arena, but without the ice. :)

Much of the day was spent chatting to people asking questions about who we were, why we were there and how much everything cost.

Loads of posing for pics and letting people hold my big weapon.

A few of us (without weapons) covered the front entrance to the show at times during the day, with more posing for pics with Abe and Dave. :)

Managed to shake the hand of Nicholas 'Dalek voice' Briggs and speak to Ian Whyte, which made my day. :)

Had some minor issues with my armour, which will need working on before Leicester; straps at the left side of the chest section come loose after a while. Fraz helped to sort them out, so I just called on his services when I felt I needed to be tighter.

The armpit & front neck areas need trimming back a little to free up movement as well.

Once the main day had wound down, we retired back to the hotel to shower/freshen up, then off to Scapey's for an excellent BBQ and viewing of various things on his big TV. :)

Sunday:

Getting more used to dressing myself in the gear, but always need help in the strapping of the chest armour, as I can't reach the side buckles.

More explaining, talking and posing for pics, with entrance duty as well.

I'm rather proud to say that I managed to resist buying anything at the show, as I've spent quite enough over the last couple of months. :D

Near the end of the show I wondered over to Ian Whyte at the autograph signing tables.
I asked him how long he was going to be there, as I wanted to get his autograph before he left.
He did one straight away for me, saying that he thought we (the UKCM) were great and thanked us for all we do. :D 8)

The personal message on the pic says "If you need any help with vermin, I have experience!!" :D

The whole lot of us then went from one celeb to another, asking them to pose for group shots with us.

The only ones we didn't get were Paul McGann (who'd left by then) and Kenny Baker, as he was in a wheelchair behind the desks and we didn't want to disturb him.

Two highlights of the weekend for me were Ian Whyte and also meeting a load of nutters who call themselves the UKCM. :D

hi all

Just wanted to say I had a great weekend despite the 17 hours spent travelling on the Friday. 17 HOURS!!! I couldn't last 17 minutes man :)

Was good to meet the new marines on their first drops. Hope you all to make it to the Sci-fi weekend in November.

Anyhoo, My pics are up now for those who want a gander.

Good piccies Darren! Have you noticed how in the one with Abe in the crowd, everyone else is out of focus except him?? How does he do it?

Where to begin?
LOL

I've had a reasonable amount of sleep, now, and the Airsoft related issues that bollixed Sunday evening up are now on their way to being resolved, so I feel a bit better and can therefore properly post my untainted thoughts of the weekend :)

First off, thanks to all of you who made the journey from Englandland for this.
For a little while after this was announced, I was worried that nobody would make the effort to come up as so many more events take place down south - Looks like our shouts of "Oi! You lot! We come down there for your events, get your collective asses up here and make ours go with a bang!"

And go with a bang it did :)

I've been checking the Google Blog search, and there's a few folk already mentioning us in their reports of the event... And the camera flashes that I'm still seeing are testimony to the UKCM's pulling powers.
Hell, we even got a load of bugless shots taken, and more people than ever before knew who we were.
I never got called GI Joe ONCE!

Cheers to Fraz for pulling off such a fast, and more importantly GOOD job on Kat's armour.
She had a great weekend, partially as a result of your efforts there, and is now dying to get cracking screwing up your lovely paintjob ready for November.

Having two bugs is cool, too - Even if one was a bit dehydrated, and the other quite the opposite.
Bug spooge is the best addition you could have made to Abe, Gareth. Long may you disturb people with ropey strands of slime.

I'm glad y'all enjoyed Saturday evening.
I was worried when I saw the weather on Sat morning, as when I first invited everyone round for a BBQ, I didn't know quite what "everyone" would end up entailing!
So t'was good that the weather held - And even better when it turned out that we COULD all fit comfortably into my lounge.
Just :)
PVB still hits like a girl, though. Hehheh.

What else, what else?
Repeatedly bumping into Wossname from Torchwood, thinking he was a crew member. ( Kat did the same ).
Repeatedly bumping into Joe McGann Off Of The Upper Hand, and knowing fine well who he was.
Unlike some. LOL

I was dead chuffed that my shoulder lamp stabilisation method worked - I can pick up my entire armour by the lamp handle now, and it won't budge, and all thanks to one little Ikea bookshelf bolt and two washers.
Yay.

Few things I'd like to see go better next year...
I think it'd be worth our while to hammer out a "Standard guest list" of some sort with Showmasters ( Has our CO decided if he wants the job full-time, yet? ;) ) so we're not wondering what the deal's going to be the night before a show.
Given the amount of interest we can get for a show, I think a guest list of 10-15 is perfectly reasonable for a show that's going to get 7500+ attendees, with any UKCM over that number paying in, and the group as a whole splitting the cost. ( If need be. Heh heh heh. )

I'd also like a chat with the Cosplay girls to make some suggestions for tightening up their show if they plan to do it at the next one - I think that had enormous potential, with a little bit of forethought and polish.

And I do think that we should perhaps do some more "in character" sweeps of the venues we go to... Take the Bug Walks up a notch or two but also do some purely-marine work with us "hunting" bugs.
No need to actually CATCH them... So long as there's plenty of shouting into radios and looking Tactical and stuffs!

Umm...
So yeah. More comments later when I think of them - Which I likely will when I upload my pictorz.

I'll leave you with this :D

Looks like you guys had a fantastic time!

It's a shame I couldn't make it, although (apart from not being a huge fan of sh**masters events) I had a pretty funky excuse on Saturday night:

I bloomin' wish!

No, I was just at the gig as a punter. I'm a huge fan of the little purple one, plus I'm an equally big fan of his lighting designer, LeRoy Bennet, so being there was a double treat for me.

I spent as much time looking open mouthed at the lights as I did getting down with my funky / cheesy self.

Surely for a gig all you need is a load of red spotlights, with maybe some blue flashing ones for the chorus?
