Here's my plan for D*Con 2011. It might not be the cheapest, but I hope it will be easiest for all and the most fun. You don't like it, or it's 50p too expensive? Then you don't have to pay attention. But this is what worked well previous years!
Hotel RoomsIn the first instance, I'm going to try to book us into the
Marriott. It's the most central hotel, the best for costuming and seems to have the biggest rooms. Also, Abe is a major celebrity amongst the desk staff there and mentioning him has got us great treatment (including a room on the 1st floor nextdoor to Aaron Douglas on one side and Jewel Staite on the other!!!

)
Rumour is that the Marriott rooms are released on 1st October. I managed to easily book 6 rooms last year and plan to attempt the same this year. This is about the number of rooms we look like needing this time round - I'm guessing about 25 UKCM.
However, as a first contingency,
I'm looking for a volunteer to try and book rooms simultaneously with me who:
- Has a healthy credit card (rooms are only secured, not charged to the card)
- Has fast Internet
- Is a UKCM member hoping to go to D*Con 2011
The 2nd backup is the Hyatt, which was almost as good, being close to the Hyatt bar and fan table but with awful elevators and rather chintzy rooms ... the bookings for Hyatt open on the 15th October.
The cost of the rooms will be split equitably based on number of nights that you stay.
FlightsDirect flights from London Heathrow to Atlanta. We've had very good service and copious amounts of free drink from British Airways cabin attendants.
After a nightmare experience doing a group booking with Delta (we ended up going BA in the end that year ...) we have booked flights INDIVIDUALLY to get the best price and avoid me being liable for the rather massive total cost ...
Therefore, I'd like people to book their own flights. You can join me on one, both or neither direction, but if you give me your outbound BA confirmation number for the flights below then I'll do online checkin for all of us to get us seated in a group. Trust me; it's a fun way to start the holiday even if you need to travel to London first.
We stayed for extra days before and after D*Con 2010 - it made it much more relaxing. Of course, if you want to stay in the US before or after then you can join me on one or other of the flights.
Outbound: BA0227 Wednesday 31st August 2011 at 1500
Return: BA0226 Tuesday 6th September 2011 at 2115Looking at previous years,
the best time to book might be in January 2011 during BA's January sale. Note that UK VAT goes up on 4th January. So I'd check prices on 1st/2nd January. In January 2010, the flight price was £320 return and never got cheaper. I missed this price by 2 hours into 1st Feb ... I can't guarantee this time will be cheapest this year or if it will ever be this cheap though...
