The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

30th March 2012 Friday
31st March 2012 Saturday
1st April 2012 Sunday

Innkeeper’s Lodge Birmingham (NEC), Coleshill
"Room Notes: All of our rates include a complimentary continental buffet breakfast. Our rooms have Comfortable beds, Telephone, WiFi, Flatscreen TV & freeview, Tea & coffee facilities, Hair dryer, En-suite fitted with refreshing showers & Desk area."

For the Friday 30/03/2012 to Saturday 31/03/2012 it is £49 per night with breakfast.

So that £98 for both night but with two people it would be £49 each. This is Standard Double or Twin Room sleeps 2,Breakfast included.

This I think this the other hotel that Dan Copper pointed out.

More hotels.

The Premier Inn Birmingham Nec/Airport. 3 stars
Friday 30/03/2012 £68 for a room
Saturday 31/03/2012 £72 for a room

Friday and Saturday £140 for two nights so abit rich!!! (£70 per person with a twin room)

Holiday Inn Express Birmingham NEC 3 stars
Friday 30/03/2012 £55 for a room
Saturday 31/03/2012 £69 for a room

Friday and Saturday £124 for two nights. (£62 per person with a twin room)

Ibis Hotel Birmingham Airport NEC 2 stars
Friday 30/03/2012 £49 for a room
Saturday 31/03/2012 £42 for a room

Friday and Saturday £91 for two nights. (£45.50 per person with a twin room)

Birmingham Fort Dunlop
Fort Parkway
Erdington
Birmingham
West Midlands
B24 9FD

OK the Saver for the two nights is £19 per night so that £38.00 but non refundable.
The normal is abit more at £49.95 for Friday night and £55.95 for Saturday. So a total of £105.90

This hotel is on the M6 north above abit.

The Breakfast is £6.65 "Our all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet gives you the choice of hot cooked breakfast, toast, granola, Kelloggs cereal, fruit and yoghurt as well as hot drinks and juice - for the perfect kick-start to the day."

So the Totel for a twin room with two people sharing is:-

£38 + £26.60 = £64.60 so that £32.30each that no bad.

Parking is free but only 45 spaces and first-come, first-served basis.

I hope these prices help.

Please can people stop posting off topic and make an new thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really care where we stay but I think I speak for everyone when I say cheaper the better. ;)

Someone higher up the pay scale than me can make the decision.

I like the sound of the cheap one!!
Obviously it'll cost more for parking at the event, but I guess we could all pile into one or two cars and split the cost.

Agreed. Aslong as we have good company, a bed each and a roof over our heads. Nothing can go wrong!

I agree cheap is cheerful

The premier inn near the NEC is better than the the Fort Dunlop Travel Lodge

It's also right on site,a short minute walk from the event.

The Fort Dunlop is 6 miles away.

On saying that if we stay over I will go with the majority and stay where most of you end up

DATA - I'd suggest you pick one hotel and go with that. If you want, I'll pick one.

It's not a great choice to make - the hotels are either expensive or have parking issues.

Forget my previous post, I say book the innkeepers lodge.
Breakfast is included, and its close to NEC, so it probably works out the best option.
I don't have a credit card, so I cant get these rooms booked, any volunteers?

Bear in mind that Innkeepers Lodge has no parking. There is a little on-street parking on Coleshill high-street, looking at Google streetview.

If you have specific requirements then book any hotel you'd prefer.

We usually car share. If I attend, I'd be happy to collect people from train station etc.

Unfortunately, I think it was a mistake to list several hotels; a group will never agree - it's usually best to book a bunch of rooms in one hotel. One hotel will always be too far away, and another too expensive. And if we get split between hotels then what's the point of going?

The IBIS is near the site (at the airport). It's far enough to need to drive or to get a shuttle bus. And the car park at the Ibis hotel is chargeable.

Issues like this is why we stopped doing Birmingham MEMs in 2007 even when we had a changing area in the event ...

If Birmingham is so difficult to stay where have you found to be the best places, regarding other events?

Looks like wherever we stay, were going to have to drive to the event both days. I suggest fort dunlop, as theres parking and includes breakfast, then just club together for a minibus taxi to and from the show.

The other events that we have this problem with is London Expo in Excel - expensive hotels and parking. However, the DLR means that you can stay in cheap hotels if necessary and get to the event relatively easily (if the DLR isn't closed ...).

The events in Earls Court and Olympia have several relatively low cost hotels within walking distance (and personally, I live in NW London so can put people up at my place).

The smaller events (which are what we do most of the time) don't have any problems because they are in various places where hotels are cheap.

I'd suggest that. However, if my health improves then I'd be costuming - this would mean I'd take my car to get changed out of the back of it ...

There is also the castle bromwich inn at the fort jester which is not far from the fort dunlop but is on the right side of the area for easy public transport links to stations and LG Arena. the 966 bus stops just outside and it goes to the LG Arena. It also has a pub next door which is cheap and cheerful. Rooms are £56.50 for doubles/ twins and singles.

There is parking and for info purposes the pub is now called fayre & square http://www.fayre-square.com/pub-food/fo ... /pid-M6878

Gareth I put up the hotels so people can choose from the price, distance, parking, food and BAR!!!!!!!

This is turing into an nightmare to choose from and what at the event???

Birmingham Fort Dunlop is £44 at the moment so it has gone up abit. But for both night but not including the Breakfast at £6.65 each per day.

I want to make sure everyone is in the same hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This hotel got 45 free parking space. It got bar and food. But you need to drive to and from the NEC.

My point is that a group of more than two people will never come to a single consensus on anything - so giving a menu of choices won't get you anywhere.

I tend to try and pick the best hotel and suggest only that one. If people moan enough about that one, then challenge them to find a (single) better one.
