from what I can tell, its based of a Matsuo MG42 rather than his smartgun, so whoever built it had to fit all the parts themselves, and they fitted the foregrip by sandwiching the top of the barrel shroud between two plates. Not very strong, but would support the weight of the gun well enough.
At the end of LFCC, I asked Beth if she wanted to try it on for some photos, and being pushed for time, we decided to just hang the rig on her and she could hold the smartgun up for a few seconds. Big mistake - I realise now that now not only was I asking that small bit of resin to hold the weight of the smartgun, but now practically the weight of the entire rig. So it snapped, and pivoted downwards smashing the muzzle off on the floor as well, leaving poor Beth holding a front grip in mid air with a horrified expression!
After fixing the resin that broke off (luckily in one piece with a clean break) , ive now drilled through the barrel below the foregrip and the whole thing is bolted via two metal plates from the top and bottom, with spacers between the metal barrel and the resin shroud to keep everything rigid. Barrel had, by the look of it, been broken off before so that was just stuck straight back on.
Thing is, not only is it a resin gun, but its a resin gun with a very long sections of unreinforced, ventilated resin, so sooner or later it was going to wear out, but seeing as it is, by my reckoning, about 8-9 years old and did numerous cons before I bought it, its not doing too bad. Of course, with seeing some new pictures on the web last weekend of the AGM airsoft MG42, (that actually, finally, seems to be reality and should hopefully be out in the next few months) Ive got a strong feeling the resin body may be due an upgrade...
Yeah, there very photogenic those two - there both rescues we have had since they were kittens (Toby, the black one was a street cat who was orphaned at 3 weeks old, Tilly was taken from her mum too early, and mistreated and was saved by the vet when they brought her in to be put down for having diarrhea) although we got Tilly later, they are pretty much best friends.
One of our others is missing at the moment so were both a bit meh, tbh fixing up the SG has given me something to take my mind off it.
And its still not done, as between fixing the ammo drum electrics and fitting the front grip all the electrics are now dead, which is nice. Grrr....
