The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Like people have been saying: Wait till you see the show and you'll understand ...

Without sounding rude, useful discussion of changes/improvement to the AE is difficult without seeing the situation.

It's not 2 groups - It's 2 Marines and a maximum of 6 civvies.
That is literally all the space we have and from that, we have to lose one Marine so everyone can fit in the Airlock.

It's a nice idea, but I think a lot of this would break the momentum too much.
Last thing we want is the public to be hanging around watching us 'play Marine', when they've paid good money to be frightened out of their boots!!

I'd liken it to some of the battle re-enactments I've seen recently.
You know they're being historically correct and tactically accurate, but as a MOP (member of the public) - unless you've done the same training, all you see is a bunch of guys waving arms at eachother. It's kinda boring.

We can possibly organise something for outside, maybe forming up a squad, having an inspection and the like, but really all the MOPs want is to speak to us about our kit, hear some lines from the movie and have us pose with their kids for photos!

Honestly, I love my military stuff, but I think it'd detract from the experience. The Marines getting freaked out helps get the civvies freaked out, they'll be thinking 'Holy smokes, these trained people with firearms are worried, maybe I should be too!', and a lot of the 'detail' in the performance (hand signals, pro-words etc.) gained from any kind of 'training' would be lost in the noisy, low-vis atmosphere inside the show anyway.

you will when i get my drill voice on lol

but yeah the point of looking military will make them think omfg their scared and their trained
also in the situation training dont mean anything i know guiys who have done plenty of tours in iraq and afghan who cower and hide when under fire
still i think show us as a military unit and then lose it in the experience hella third marine leging it woul;d be amazing and getting halfway up a corridor to be grabbed off by an alien

There have been lots of suggestions for the AE over the years since we started doing it, most of which come up each year. IF you were at the NSC you should get an idea of the limits we have in the Challenger Suite.

Assimilate, WY testing on people is EXACTLY what happens in the AE at the moment.

There will not be any sort of battle drills, formal training/exercises in the AE. Outside of that, its up to folks if they want to go down that route. Personally, its not for me- I am not part of a trained squad of soldiers, I'm in this to costume, enjoy myself with my friends (new and old) and raise a bit of cash for charities whilst doing it.

That's pretty much everyone's attitude.
Between us we skirmish, paintball, re-enact and serve in the military for real and there we get enough command structure, field exercises, drilling and all the other Army Barmy fun to keep us sated.

I'm no longer in the forces, but some still are and I doubt any of us would be too enthusiastic about giving up our weekends, travelling many miles and paying lots of money to do exactly what we do all week.

We do the Aliens stuff to dress up and showcase our collections, pose for the cameras, entertain the public, and mess about with good friends.

Our charity is NSPCC, but the NSC events benefit the UKG charities (Make a Wish and Medicinema?) and the NSC itself which is a charity.

Stop picking it apart or I will cry... this was an AWESOME event and HUGE thanks to all concerned...

Jon, for not minding he didn't get to costume and all his hard work before the event
Abe/Gareth, for being a poorly chap but still working bl**dy hard to make it all go smoothly (Abe is still the only Alien for me!)
Gary/James, for coming out of retirement for this
All the screamers, for adding to the experience in ways you will never know
All those from north of the border, for bringing your funny money down, being lovely, working hard, partying harder - you are welcome anytime!
ADC, the talk was a bonus so happy to add Trevor to the list anytime
Harry, for his calm attitude, big smile, love of cheese and talents in the techie department
For everybody who traveled miles, worked hard to make this happen, bought stuff at the auction and just had a great time THANK YOU!!!

All money from the AE is going to Make-aWish Foundation, but I am happy to look at other charities for next year.

EDIT: Crossposted... again!!

You'll find, as a newbie, that a lot of ideas have already been considered, mate. I myself already asked about the chariddy side.

The problem with charity stuff is that it's handling money and a lot of that is fraught with red tape and business arrangements. It requires committees, meetings, minutes, accounts and all that. Given that we're spread all over the place, it's a right mission just to organise an AGM.

I've also worked with a lot of charities through the bike scene. Many have their own requirements which must also be met - For example, some will not touch us because we're associated with guns. Period.

Also, we're at the NSC as guests of the UKG, so we're working for their chosen charities in this instance.

I don't mean to sound like I'm shooting all your ideas down here, mate.
Just that this is ground we've already covered many times (almost every time someone new joins the group, seemingly). Believe me, I know how frustrating it can seem when you have these great ideas... only to be shown five threads from years back when everyone else thought of the same thing!!! :D

If you saw my Apes performance with a Pulse Rifle you might not be so keen to see him with a chainsaw!

I'm sure it will amuse the Stormtroopers though!

Why do you think I rushed to get my jacket done in time? ( "Gonformity, indeed! )
Ended up simply being too busy to wear it, though... Also, I suspect Boltie would have shaved "!emag eht tsol tsuj uoY" into the back of my skull had I requested assistance with the hairdo on Saturday night.

And shhhh about the chainsaw! that was on The List! ;)
