The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Generally we don't sit on our asses all day. You happened to be at the Portsmouth event and that was a bit of a special case in as much as there wasn't enough room in the small crowded hall for us to walk around. The creatures were stuck in a tiny corner because it was the only place were they didn't cause a total obstruction.

That's true, it wasn't the world's largest hall.

Quote:
At that event we did loads of stuff outside directly for the organisers, walking for a mile or more down the seafront with the event boss, telling people about the event. At past events, we have assisted with security/crowd control, appeared in news reports promoting the events, and escorted cast members into Q&A's etc.

Fair enough. I suppose it looks a lot different when you're costuming in the event and essentially looking at it from a punter's point of view.

Quote:
Both the Collectormania and MCM Expo organisers are dying to have us back. From my POV, we spend 90% of our time walking around posing for photos with punters (Alien, Predator, and Marine!). That is why the event organisers value us (despite the inevitable complaints from the parents of traumatised children!!

Hee hee! Cool! :)

Quote:
The way you phrase the above could be read as saying we're freeloaders who are not welcome at events. I know you don't mean it that way.

For the record I certainly didn't SAY it in that way either, and I hope nobody else interprets what I said like that too G.

Hi All,

Whether it was meant in jest or not I was a bit affronted at the suggestion that its all we are is bunch of hungover men sat at a table all day, and thats all we do at events.

I too go to these events for fun but do not as a rule drink much - I still manage to have a good time. And that means I am not hungover the next day.

As G has pointed out we 'work' these events, spending all day in costume walking around and posing for the public.

If there is a table provided it is manned all day, whether that is particulalry done by some one who'd rather not walk around is up to the individual concerned (perhaps they do have a hangover but they're still doing somethig useful).

I go to events and I costume. I walk around and pose for the public and provide 'colour and interest' (if nothing else) for the organisers. I would not presume to go to event and free load. If I was not well enough (for whatever reason!!) to wear my costume all day, I would either not attend or I'd go as a paying member of the public.

The public does not want to see half-hearted efforts - better not do it at all than a 'can't be arsed' attitude.

I'll get off my soap - box now. Just wanted my say.

Karyn

Relax Glenn. I have it in hand. As I have said above ...

Bug Hunts - I have discussed this with Malika and said that I am willing to organise and headline one or two Bug Hunts. I have asked her the safest place for the finale to occur and I'm yet to hear back. If nowhere can be found then there will be no Bug Hunt. I would say, if we had a BH, it would require all Aliens to remain on leashes for the rest of the time for the BH to "make sense". I'm fine with that (maybe too fine with it ... ;) ) but I wouldn't like to speak for the other beasties.

Other duties - As far as I'm concerned, we will do anything (within reason ... ) that Malika wants us to do. As yet, I have heard nothing, so until I do we will work as I outlined before in this thread. We should have a table beside The Simon and the RPB so get thinking about stuff to put on it.

From this in your email I replied that I would not include a bug hunt in the event, so there is nothing specific from me.

OK I will cut the Bug Hunt as well and stick to the table requested near the RPB guys.

I have booked a table next to the RPB for you guys but that is all.[/quote]

Let's try the FULL quote of what I said:
Quote:
Neither Andy Spencer or I were planning on trying for a bug hunt because of these complications, but if you know of a way that it can be done without issues, then I'd very much like to make it happen.

Now, let's concentrate on making this event the best it can be.

I want to do Bug Hunts, but tell me how we can do it in a way that will be acceptable to you and safe for NSC visitors. If you don't want BHs or you think it isn't worth the effort then I'm fine with that too.

Thanks for sorting out a table. Let's start a list of what people can bring to put on it. I can't bring much cos I don't have much, but:

Palisades Aliens Warrior Signature statue - Pug50

For the people who weren't in Coventry at the weekend: We won't be doing an organised Bug Hunt at NSC this year.

With 8-10 UKCM attending and not all of them being in armour, we don't have the manpower to ensure the crowd is properly managed during the finale.

However, suggestions for organised ways to involve the punters individually and in groups (especially kids) would be appreciated.

Hey Guys, first off apologies for not making it to the Collectomania drop, I had an accident and damaged my back that very morning. Anyway back on course, I will be there on the RPB stand over the weekend and will have my USCM gear with a view to wearing it from time to time, I known Martin from the RPB is bringing his too, so if you require an extra 2 grunts for the hunt let us know.

Best news I have had all day!

Be great to see you matey.

On a separate point the lovely Ian Whyte has offered a goodie bag full of signed A'v'P stuff to the NSC for Movie Mania Weekend.

I wondered if you would be interested in doing something on your stand to win the goodie bag?

I still have loads of certificates and badges from boot camp last year, so maybe you can look at a way of getting the children involved in a "recon mission" to answer questions and go into a prize draw???

Just an idea, if you guys decide you don't want to do this I will include the bag in the Saturday night auction.

Saturday night auction? Was wondering if we were doing another. Anyone got anything to donate for it?

Also, did I hear rumours that the Noodle Bar had reopened and was the place to be on Friday evening?

Ohh, does anyone (RPB/UKCM/UKG whatever) require a mannequin for static costume display? I have two. Let me know and I'll bring them along.
