Post subject:  Interest thread - Colonial Marine living history display

I've been approached by the organisers of one of the world's biggest military vehicle/reenactment shows, and asked if we would be interested in attending with a full living history/ reenactment (PREenactment?) display.

The plan would be to build a full size sci-fi style camp - power loader, defences, sentry guns, antennas and radio equipments, crates etc dotted around, some kind of temporary buildings/sci-fi tents....
There would be a large living history element to it during the day when the public is around, so you would need to spend the days actually living like a colonial marine. Things like patrols, weapon cleaning and day to day tasks of a military camp.

This would need to be a community project in order to get everything built, and is due to happen in summer 2020 (we were asked to do it this year, but I can't see us being able to pull it off in just 6 months).
The show is also a week long, so would require time off work.

The show has has tens of thousands of people through the gate, so really is the opportunity to do something potentially huge!

I've not agreed to anything yet. Before I do, is there any actual interest in doing something like this? If we can't get the numbers then it's a no-go I'm afraid.

Discuss!

Lots of time to book a flight! Everything is on site, so no hotels/accommodation needed

We've been talking up here about the possibility of making some bigger props for cons again ( Sadly the hive backdrop I made was damaged in a flood and thus is no more ) - Main problem is, as ever, storage and transport!
What you thinking?

I was just in the UK in October (London). First visit there and I didn't have time to seek out USCM stuff.

Looking forward to coming back, had a lot of fun.

As a practical matter, I would have some concerns about getting my stuff into the UK (UKARA et all) and then back into the USA.

Sounds interesting, but we'd need to know where it is before we could say we'd be likely to attend.

I'd also be very much interested in coming to do some coverage depending on where it is.

Just saw this, I am down there all week already with the Vietnam group I am in (the AIPS), we had a drunken conversation down there! if this goes ahead I would happily spend a day or 2 on the display in my USCM kit.

It was good to run in to you! I need to have a chat with you sometime about me getting more Involved in the Vietnam stuff :)

This is still in planning, and we're hopefully going to start making arrangements after I get back from Dragoncon

I'm interested, tickets from Prague to Gatwick are pretty reasonable and I should have a smartgun by then. Does anyone have experience with bringing prop guns (nothing deactivated or airsoft, just a non-functioning display piece) to the UK?

your best bet would to have it shipped to a UK member who is UKARA registered. Cosplay/Costuming is not a legally valid reason to import a replica firearm.

I had a feeling that it would be something along those lines after reading that quick summary of UK gun laws.

The law is pointless and very stupid
