The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So what do you think of the upgrade to the Mk. 52?

Very nice.

What on earth is being reflected in the visor??

In my twisted, tired brain, I'm seeing a slim Predator engaged in a rather rude act!!!!

Must be time for sleep! :)

The reflection in the visor is the shelf of my workroom with an SPH4 on it :)
But I have to admit that I selected that picture because in the other ones it was all too easy to see that it was my workroom with the camera in front of me.

The Background was a white wall which looked too much out of place so I replaced it with that more space-looking dark blue. Otherwise it's all the real deal.
The main parts of the armor are made from aluminium while the shoulder bells and shoulder bands are still fiberglass (those will be replaced in the next weeks). The helmet is a slightly modified Airoh Tyger motorcycle helmet.

Cheers,
Stefan

BTW: The scars on the armor are all the real! They are the result from two days of intense fighting with Mercs, Aliens and Preds on the AVP4-LARP last weekend.

Cheers,
Stefan

Very nice work, did you make the armour yourself?

Really good to see more expanded universe stuff

Thanks a lot!

Yep, I did the armor myself. The shoulder bells and straps are from the MAA-kit (and it really looks like aluminium too). However, even the MAA-armor was too small for me and so I started making my own parts out of 1.5mm aluminium. Now I have an armor that really fit's me. I learned a lot in the process and consider this one a prototype (there are still some details wrong and some things did not work as planned) but nevertheless it was easier than I initially thought.

Cheers,
Stefan

Is this armour of your own design or does it exist in the tech manual or somewhere else ?
AvP Larp...now that sounds cool.
Where abouts do you play ??

Stephan, that armor is terrible. I suggest you send it to me for disposal. ;)

Seriously though, very, very cool work and "final" product. Well done!

Did you put any fans or anything in the backpack? I imagine the helm gets a little warm after a while.

Again, congratulations on a job well done!

Nice Job Man!

Sweet details on the helmet.

I wish I had the equipment to form metal.

The design idea is based on the compression suit described in the technical manual - a tight fitting vacuum/environment suit that can be worn under the normal BDUs. It doesn't have the extensive radiation shielding and temperature control units of a real spacesuit. So the armor itself is a standard USCM armor with an oxigen pack clipped to the backpack brackets and a helmet that seals the suit.

There are no fans inside the helmet, but the temperature never got too hot during the two days (probably because there is no internal lighting for the face and the external lights are LEDs).

The main equipment is actually rather simple: Two differently sized rubber hammers and a small plastic one.

Cheers,
Stefan

Have a look here (about 6MB):

www.arador.com/construction/Basic-Armouring.pdf

I think it's very useful. However it deals mostly with steel armor. With aluminium armor you can use the same principals but use "soft" (e.g. rubber and wood) tools instead, because alu is much softer.

Cheers,
Stefan
