Anyone know how to remove the Grenade straps and buckles from some of spats armor? I have a Mat Noble set id like to switch them for but it seems as if Spats are riveted in or somthing. And I cant use the same buckle because of the size diference.

Anyone have suggestions or experience with this?

My Grenade Straps are attached to the belt with a hoop, and to the shoulder armor with a quick release buckle.

You can just slip the belt out, unclip the buckle and you're all set.

To swap the female buckle to a new grenade strap, just unthread it (it's the only way I can describe it) from the strap. It takes some wiggling, but you can get the strap slipped out, and then just thread the new strap onto the clip. The whole process should take under a minute.

Rivets? Drill them out.

I recommend getting a very large power drill and a BIG bit for the end. Lay the piece down in the middle of a field and then drill the rivet out. Be sure to drill into your thumb while doing this.

Trust me - I've seen it done this way by a professional

*Disclaimer - Yes, I am joking.

Just be careful of heat when drilling rivets, it will melt the plastic.

There's no need to remove any rivets to swap the Grenade Straps!

I've changed the grenade straps on mine to fit TE straps.

It's really not difficult, there is no drilling, just unthread it from the quick release buckles.

Probably my Side Release buckles won't mate with Spats.

You can either drill out the rivets holding his SRB buckle, or

weave in my cotton webbing on to his SRB buckle.

If you have any questions, post some picts. That will help.

Hmm I have an older set of spats armor from maybe 08. And the Female buckle is riveted in place I cannot get it to unthread without removing the rivits. I looked under the padding and there are at least two rivets through the black loop thats holding the female end of the buckle. There is no unthreading.

And the Buckles are differnt sizes or I would of snapped Mats into Spats.

Either it's not a set of my armor, or someone modified it in some strange way.

Any chance of your posting a pic?

Isn't it just the Male buckles on the end of the Spat Grenade straps that need unthreading and then putting onto the new straps? :?

Maybe I'm reversed. Which is the side that's attached to the armor and which is the side that's attached to the Grenade Strap?

The part attached to the grenade straps is the male connector the part connected to the armor is the female. Yeah I will post some pics later tonight.

So can't you just take off/unthread the male buckles/connectors from the ends of the Spat grenade straps and put them onto the ends of your new M Noble straps. :?
Like Spat said (unless something different has been done to them and that's what's confusing us), the male buckles on the ends of the actual grenade straps should just come off by unthreading the end of the strap from the buckle.

There should be no need to touch the Female buckles that are attached/riveted to the actual armour.

Nothing differnt has been done to the armor and It hasnt been altered in any way. The loop is reiveted close so I cannot rethread the strap connector onto the armor. As I cannot remove the original. The buckles are the same size but, differnt types of clasps. Here are some photos. look under the padding in the armor and you can see the rivet the loop is sealed. How do I get the female connector on without breaking the original loop?

Image

The one rivot above the strap seals that loop shut. So how can I unthread it spat?

Just swap the male buckles over. simple. Dont have to touch the armour/female sections.

If you are determined to swap the female buckle, so you can use Matts buckles, then you will have to drill out the rivet, open the loop, remove Spat buckle, install Matt Buckle and then rivet it back in place.
No other way to do it, I can see, that's why it will be so much easier just swapping the male buckles over on the grenade straps.

Nothing lost, you can always swap the buckles over anytime in the future.
