The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello fellow Grunts,

I found this little tidbit of knowledge on a motorcycle forum and am currently doing some plastic welding on some motorcycle fairings. The theory is the same for those of you with ABS armor. Feel free to chime in Spat if it will work with your HIPS.

Anyway, Trot down to your local hardware store and get a bottle of ABS Weld-On ($2.99) and a pack of fiberglass cloth ($3.99).

Clean the back side of the crack so that the plastic is exposed. You must get down to the plastic.

Next cut out 2 or three squares of the fiberglass cloth.

Using the provided mini toilet brush attached inside of the can, dab on a liberal amount of Weld-On. Then lay down the first piece of fiberglass square. Using the brush, put another coat on the fiberglass so that its soaked through. Repeat to build thicker.

The Weld-On temporally melts the ABS to re-fuse with the Weld-On (which is liquid ABS) The fiberglass is for structural strength.

Dont apply to thick as it will take longer to cure. On that note this stuff drys fairly quickly so have your fiberglass already cut.

You can find ABS Weld-On in the Plastic pipe/ sprinkler isle. Its used to cement sprinkler pipe together. While you are there buy some 3" or 5" pipe and some 90 Degree joints to make a Armor stand.

I have repaired a couple of broken tabs on the bike and numerous cracks in the plastic over the last couple of days. Rock solid

If someone could post pics for me that would be great.....Building props, smart....posting high res pics....dumb. PM me with your email.

Christian

I'm gonna dig this thread up from the grave, as repairing my old #99 set of Spat armour is something I need to do, so would like to know if this method will work with the HIPS that the armour is vac'ed from?

I've never tried it, but if it works on ABS, and the plastic I use is a hybrid of ABS and Sytrene, in theory it should at least half work!

Fingers crossed, then. I feel a weekend experiment coming on :) I'll try on the knee first before repairing the back armour.

That sounds like an awesome way to reinforce armor *before* it breaks too, right?
