After doing much research, I've decided to use Aervoe #999 Earth Brown on my shrouds in my upcoming PR build. Problem is, I can't find it anywhere! Do I really have to order it from the interweb? Anybody ever bought some Aervoe camo paint up here? Is it even available in Canada? Thanks for the help! |

Heard about it on this here forum. Apparently it's the best alternative to Humbrol #170 in spray can form. And since Brown Bess has really grown on me since my last build, well... Check out these threads: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7779 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5228 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4070 You pretty much confirm what I thought: Aervoe camo paint isn't available at retail in Canada. Guess I'll order it online! Sucks though, it's like double the price. ![]() ![]() |

Sgt Baldwin wrote: Beats me, never heard of it. How do you even know about it then? viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2159 I'd just be careful trying to order paint. Especially spray paint. Might have a hard time getting it shipped to Canada. Kevin |

Yeah, I know. Usually it's ground shipping, or nothing at all. That's why I ordered it in a Canadian store! Apparently, Hero Army Surplus, in Oshawa ON, carries it. It's a little expensive, but at least it's in Canada. ![]() |

No way! ![]() ![]() Might just have to order a can myself! I'm really interested in seeing it beside some true BB. There's a surplus store about 30mins from me that sells a brown camo paint. I don't think it's Aervoe. I never did buy it as I wasn't sure if it would be a close match or just another matt brown paint. Now I'm curious to buy some. Kevin |

Yeah, me too. I can't wait to try it. And to see it in person! ![]() Now I wish I hadn't sold my MR motion tracker. ![]() EDIT: And BOOM! My order has been shipped, Canada Post Expedited. They don't mess around. ![]() |

Look what I got! ![]() ![]() First reaction when I opened the box and saw the cap: that's waaay too brown, that won't do at all. Then I saw the mention of Federal Spec 595, and I did some research. http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=34088+30099&size=l That's a color viewer for the Federal Standard Colors. I punched in the code for Earth Brown, and the code for Olive Drab for comparison. Doesn't look half bad. Then I tried the paint itself (The can was quite cold when I opened the box ![]() ![]() Under fluorescent lights... ![]() Under halogen bulbs... ![]() And under plain old regular bulbs. ![]() It's a real interesting color, because it actually changes color under different lightning conditions, just like Brown Bess. But it's never green; always brown. ![]() ![]() I'm not an expert, but this looks the part. Just enough to convince me to use it on my next set of shrouds, anyway. ![]() |

Amazing that that is the same plate in all those shots! I'd certainly put that on my shrouds! Kevin |

All we gotta do now is figure out what kind of lights to hold over your BB Pulse Rifles to turn the OD, and I'm all set. |

Annnd here it is in natural light. It's indirect light, but it gives a reeeally good idea of what it looks like in person. ![]() |

Humbrol broown Bess is not as 'warm' but by the time the piece gets weathered and handled the difference is negligible. Also The background will effect the tone as well, lay that color swatch on a black background and see what happens... A lot of that has to do with a digital cameras built in desire to balance the image. The going story is that the heavy use of blue tinted lighting in the film made all brown bess items look green. I've been trying to find some blue tinted light ever since I got home. Only thing I found are the lights from my proton pack's power cell, and they don't quite do the trick. ![]() |

Yes... halogen bulbs put out a much bluer light than incandescents. At the office supply you can find transparent report covers in different colors of acetate, or colored plastic file folders which are usualy translucent (not trasnparent) which will also serve to diffuse, you can use those as Gels over the light. Not too close though, them bulbs do get hot. I've worn many hats over the years... Low tech garage band lighting designer was one of them... Coffee can spotlights, lighting truss made of an old ladder, light boards made of wall switches and dimmers... good times! ![]() M |

Yeah I know! That color is simply fascinating. ![]() One final test: followed Matt's advice and bought some report covers. Took a couple of pics with a blue one in front of the lights, here's the results: Halogen bulb: ![]() Fluorescent bulb: ![]() Sure looks more green than brown to me. ![]() |
