The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey Chaps,

Since i bought that Latex Facehugger from Marsattack.

I decided to build an Alien egg. It will stand approc 30" tall and with working Latex petals.

So, here is the build. First is a 30" balloon with Plaster of paris around it. Then filled with gorrila filler. Next was a smaller balloon and then plaster of paris applied. I will continue to build upon the shape and then bust it out with some filler to make it more stable and more durable.

What you think. Stay tuned!

Ripstick (who posts here occasionally) did one for Dragon Con last year in a similar fashion....it came out great.
Does anyone have any pictures of it?

I love the idea, just concerned about its strength when done.
Do you plan to reinforce it on the inside or leave as is?

I look forward to seeing more progress pictures of this one.

Might have to build up the top to get that "tear drop" shape, but I like what you're cooking!

Great idea using a balloon to build up the initial shape. ***** I've looked over some books on paper mache with something ALIEN related in mind. Often the framing is chicken wire & lumber. This would be light weight (at the start anyway  ).

Thanks for posting the pics. Looking forward to seeing it morph 8)

You heard right although it's not just the SAS it's a standard British Army Survival Course technique, you stick condom inside a sock for support and you'll be surprised how much water you can carry in there!

Will this have flexible flaps on top that open remotely?

Well, I don't have flexible flaps but I can get at least one leg behind my head, as certain Chatroom regulars are aware ;)

But yeah, Callum - I'm thinking rubber egg-flaps with some fishing line inside to flex them open like tendons...

Hitch the Fishing Line to a servo or 2 and control them with a Cheap PIR Sensor and you'll have an Egg which opens when anyone walks by!

Okay chaps

Here are some finished shots of the outer egg. Covered in P38 currently standing at 25" without base and weighing in at 12lbs. Mosseltoff it's a boy.

Anyways, i'll do the sanding soon and then start on the outer detail. I think i'm going to go with the Alien Ressurection look. =]

Here are some shots and a picture of my new baby. =]
