Hey there, fellow fans. I'm a level designer working on a highly customized Aliens-themed map, intended to be converted for various games on the Source Engine. I want to roughly recreate the scenario that took place inside the atmosphere processor as actual gameplay; a team of marines have to fight their way to the top level, where a dropship awaits. The task is made difficult by a team of aliens swarming around, random explosions, lightning, fires, an impeding nuclear explosion and other hazards posed by the unstable facility, as well as locked doors that need to be opened with welding torches. Plans: http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/1039/floor1.png http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6161/floor2.png http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/5406/floor3.png http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/8247/floor4.png Editor shots (very much WIP!): http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/8653/ap4q.jpg http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/4994/ap5l.jpg http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/1763/ap6s.jpg http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/594/ap7z.jpg http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/4517/ap8z.jpg http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/5861/ap9m.jpg http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/2184/ap10z.jpg Obviously it's in a smaller scale compared to the movie's +30 levels high complex; a map that big wouldn't be practical for any game that I'm capable of editing for, anyway. Perhaps I can do something bigger once Aliens: Colonial Marines comes out. I want to incorporate the APC and the dropship in the gameplay, since they were a big part of the fight in the movie as well. Depending on the route chosen by the marines, they could employ an APC found in the transit tunnels to drive up and reach higher levels faster, protected in it's confinements from attacking aliens. Depending on how this plays out and the potency of grieving, I may either make the dropship sit waiting on the top platform, or require it be remotely flown there. In any case, to fly out of the atmosphere processor and save the themselves from the explosion, the marines need to pilot the dropship and fly out, amidst falling debris, explosions and what not. Getting to the point... I need 3D models of the M577 and UD-4L. I tried Googling for a good few weeks, but all I've found is commercial models, which are far too high-poly and lack textures anyway. For instance, a polycount of 10k is fine for the dropship, but 100k is way too much. Something half of that for the APC. It would be very preferable for interiors to be included as well... I figured someone here might possibly have had some kinds of 3D models at their disposal while crafting real-life models... or then not? http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/1606/dropship3.jpg That, and there are problems with large physics objects built from blocks. Anyone? |

As a professional videogame artist, I can tell you, you've given yourself an awfully big task. Afraid I don't have any game-resolution models of the vehicles, although it's on my (very long) list of projects to do one day. Unless someone else steps up, I'd suggest asking around a game art specific forums such as polycount, some very talented artists on there, and obviously some Aliens fans, as a small team put together this scene in the CryEngine http://www.polycount.com/forum/showpost ... tcount=107 Best of luck |

Thanks people. I've added the Polycount guys on my MSN, and sent Proteus6007 an e-mail. I might contact Mr. Rükr as well. |
