Does anyone have a shot of the USCM dinner trays? Google is letting me down and they have some metal trays on sale locally that I think seem familiar.

Thanks
David

Okay - watched the scene again last night. Were the original trays Vacuformed? They were white and seemed pretty floppy.
The ones I had been looking at were metal - Princess Auto has them on sale this week. Not the same, I suppose.

Most likely they were a found item in which case they'll have been injection molded.

I'm pretty sure they're aluminium or stainless steel mess trays - military and prison issue, it's the top one here.

That's the ones they have - Reg $14.99 on sale for $5.88.

Maybe I'll pop by and pick up a pair.

I've just watched the scene.
David's right they are definatly white plastic.

The tray Harry mentioned looks like the right pattern (hard to see in the movie).
I've had a quick look online but can't find any in plastic.

It seems that in the mid 40's they were made in that pattern from Phenol Formaldehyde (Bakelite)

If you decide to go for the stainless steel you might want to check ebay too. I searched for "mess tray", there are a few on there include a 12 item multiple auction currently at $9.99.

Ah, yep - I just checked too. I wasn't looking at my reference earlier.

I've got a feeling the metal ones were used in Alien3 or Resurrection though.

They sure sound metal, but again heavier plastic can sound the same.
I'm thinking ot the corn bread tray hitting the ground after ripley slapped it out of bishops hand.

I know what you mean although that was a different tray. Not compartmented like the mess trays.
It was white too and probably plastic.
It could have been steel but I think it's more likely that a plastic tray hitting the floor didn't make the "right" sound so folley of metal was used to give a better sound.
