The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ok I've been looking up past news feeds and have noticed two things. One; a lot of people are against wearing the USMC globe and anchor to show respect for REAL Marines (I highly respect that). Two there is a screen accurate USCM pin available. My question is, would anyone be interested in a pin that closer resembles the Globe and anchor yet is original to the USCM as to not offend real Marines? Basically like what you guys did with the dropship wings pin.
My idea was to replace the globe with LV-426, the anchor with a pulse rife and the eagle with a dropship. What do you guys think?

The dropship wings are part of the Aliens Legacy award which we hand out to members or people who have had an impact on the alien films and community. As far as the globe and anchor, the only time it was used was on Drakes undershirt.

Well, also Gorman's Service C cap.

If you are talking like a T-shirt, I think it could be a fun design. If you are suggesting an actual pin to be worn on uniforms or dress caps then I am not so sure.

From a "costume" standpoint, I don't feel LV-426 is really a suitable replacement for our own world. LV-426 was a surprise and a screwup, not a symbol of what the Colonial Marines stand for. Swap out the 'planet' aspect in general with a Delta maybe? I think that would be getting warmer.

From a "public relations" standpoint, however, I'd still be nervous despite the alterations. I've personally felt the glares from active military and other members can attest to cases where some take offense at just how close the service Cs are to real uniforms (and that is without anything resembling real Marine insignia). It is possible the overall format similarity might lead some to not even notice the changes from a distance, and even on closer inspection the most hardcore might see those changes as an unwelcome altering to their AEG (A "bastardization" of their beloved symbol, if you will).

Over-thinking this? Probably. Overly cautious? Perhaps. I would hope the world is full of fun loving people that "get it", but experience tells me people like to find things to get pissed about these days (especially in alcohol fueled settings where my own costuming tends to occur. But that could very well be MY problem! )

There's also the patch worn by the Dropship crew, it has a bit of a "future EGA" feel to it.

If you replace the eagle and anchor and use the Delta instead of a planet then (to my mind) you'd have quiite a different symbol. Call it a DGD (dropship, gun and delta) maybe? I'd be interested n seeing it!

If I recall correctly, the EGA appears only on Gorman's service cap and Frost's "I served my time in hell" t-shirt.

For reasons to not closely resemble the USMC, we have collectively decided to not wear the USMC EGA. Alex Ko deisgned, years ago, an EGA that we use for our parade flag:

And I have integrated this into a hypothetical Sergeant Major of the Colonial Marines rank:

Someone (Hollis??) here made a sergeant rank with one Pulse Rifle, which I used for my Corporal rank.

I only have access to a mock up of the embroidered version right now but I can post the art for my printed one soon.

I had seriously thought of making the rest, trying to incorporate the Flame thrower and Smartgun.

Maybe I should try it haha

The rank is pretty awesome guys. The flag is rock solid too. The EGA is tricky ground to trend but you guys made some cool variations. I don't know if I'd ever wear Class C's (because I'm Army...it be too weird for me!)

Again, too cool folks. I have to look at photos but was that flag shown this year?

I know Hunterkiller86 has a Colonial Marine flag based on the patch...I am just thinking of uses outside the parade and maybe at booths for background materials. Be cool to have some kind of continuity for booth displays.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but did the movie marines use Army rank patches? I want to say I've read that before.

Army rank patches on the BDUS. As far as rank on class C, gorman had his LT bars on the shoulders.

And now I really want to be a Cpl. man that looks cool Moosh! If anyone's good with a computer and wants to try to make a mock up of the dropship, delta, USCM weapon of choice I'd really appreciate it (I suck with computers). Be a better way to see if people like it and if it would be far enough away from the EGA. Thanks for all the feed back guys!

You're not the only one who's Army around here... doesn't feel weird to us.

In my opinion:

Call me a purist, but I never really saw the purpose of putting a pulse rifle below the chevrons. The USMC doesn't have an M16 in their rank insignia... Furthermore, it was already established that it was US Army rank insignia that is used for the Colonial Marines, so making a rank that is similar to the USMC deviates too greatly.

As Moosh said, I did have a patch made for my Gunny Sgt. - turning the rifle into a Pulse Rifle made perfect sense, continuing the "Sci-Fi of the USCM".

I like your idea of a proposed USCM EGA. Got any mock-ups?
