The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Dropship Pin prototypes with 2nd one added
PostPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2007 6:08 pm
Hi all,

Well I had a brainfart yesterday & acted upon it.

I figured US Army has the Assault badge (Helicopter badge).
Well what`s to say something similar couldn`t exist for the USCM/USCA?
So I made this as said in 10 minutes just as a trial run.

It measures 2 1/2 " long & 1 1/2" wide. I opted for a 3D effect with it too.

Now I`m just testing the waters here. Though if there was interest for this as a wearable badge (USCM or Civvie jackets).
I`m happy to sit & do another taking my time with it BUT someone with casting abilities will have to take over that. Afraid casting is something I`ve never done.

It`s sculpted out of a Milliput 2 part clay that dries in minutes & is Rock hard & perfect as a master.

I use this clay for my 1/18th sculpting,so I know it can take a pounding.

Anyway as said it was a brainfart & well if interest is there I`m happy to make another (spending more time on it) master for someone to cast.

Hey that's a good idea in the making. If it gets refined up I bet a lot of these grunts will want one. That's really cool.

Well I sat today & did another prototype pin for your views on it.

Also made some mods to the original prototype.

As you can see the 2nd prototype is thinner & smaller than the original though using the USCM Coin for scale will hopefully give you guys the feel for them.
Also with the Original prototype, sanded parts down & added a ARC to it (Left Blank). The Blank could be used for UKCM,USCM,Dropship name etc.

Anyway open to views on these.

I like the flatter second prototype - more in line with modern military "warfare devices". Reminds me of paratrooper wings or my own Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist wings, etc.

Wikipedia

There's a list of just the Navy's warfare badges alone. There's a LOT of em. The Marine Corps doesn't have many of their own - they're technically still part of the Navy (although you'll never get one to admit it, lol). Marine pilots wear the same wings as Navy pilots, for example. One particularly snazzy-looking exception is the Marine Combat Aircrewman Badge.

One thing that kinda caught my imagination when I saw this post was that it reminded me of a brand new warfare badge that the Navy approved just last year - the Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist badge. I could totally see this idea growing into a project to design an entire line of Colonial Marine warfare badges - from dropship pilot and combat aircrewman wings to a "space expeditionary warfare" badge. How badass would that be!

I'd really love to pitch in on this... Send me an email at outcry27@yahoo.com or IM me (same name, without the @yahoo) if you want to talk.

Thank`s very much Sean.

Must admit the 2nd one i did moreso for that very reason (Military looking).

I`m well aware the USMC use the US NAVY awards, merits etc. Though I`d have thought the Cheyenne would be unilaterally used throughout the Military, unless of course it IS only a Marine vehicle.
After all in the US only the USMC use the AV-8,so you never know I guess.
Though going by the Tech manual I guess not with the "Marine60 & 70" programme`s.Which then makes the Cheyenne appear to be All branches used.

Anyway mate, glad you like the concept & idea & I`ve added you to my IM (steelbonnet20022000 is mine).

Would look awesome on a dress uniform with a ribbon hanging down from it, like a medal :D

Cheer`s Tony.

Well what my original thoughts were. Was to have a badge that could be worn on BDUs,flightsuits & Dress uniforms & the larger one more a civvie jacket look. As said having whatever written in the plain arc.

Adding ribbons is certainly an option I must admit. That could fall to a National idea (US,UK,Aussie,UA,etc) or a Regt ribbon option?

The badge could double up as UH-4 crew Award badge (for those with Pilot get-up) & maybe as a "ASSAULT" badge for several Drops (Con`s) for Marines & Officers.

As said these are just prototypes to get a response & also see if anyone can get them made.

Again Thank`s mate & glad you like them.

Like 'em bro! I think the 2nd one works better on a set of bdu's...in fact, I have a set hanging in the closet that one would look good on...what a co-incidence! 8)

Thank`s Rex :D

I`m trying to see if I can find someone to cast the smaller one & add pins to secure to a set of BDUs.

If anyone here can help Please LMK,happy for someone else to take over the casting & selling part.

Just wanted to offer something to the community :D

Sorry I haven't replied to your email yet, it's been a rough couple weeks lol.

I've got a few ideas for the badge, though. I'll try to knock up a couple sketches and see if I can't scan em up for you.

Outcry,
No probs mate. Look forward to your ideas mate & working with you on this.

Nick,
Thank`s mate. I`m still feeling my way around the 1:1 modelling though something like this I can do....LOL

I think the Dropship/Assault pin could be used for a few ideas.
A, Dress wings for a Cheyenne Crew uniform &/or an Award for Assault aka Assault Wings for the Marines.
B, Award for Actual Drops attended (Plastic version).
C, Just to add to a civvie jacket.
D, Lastly just a general BUY idea for fans (Metal version) & maybe at shows.

Though as said just ideas.
