Good morning Marines.. SUBJ: USCM ID. cards

I was wondering if anyone makes these up with our Name rank service number etc.
I have the STD lot you often see on EBay..Hicks..Hudson. Bishop. Ripley, etc.

Have a Wonderful Day in "THE CORPS"

Vito -- I made a run of them back in 2004, then "Friendlyskies" Darren made them just last year I think it was. I stopped making them becuz it was kind of just a one time for the kicks thing and not meant to be a product or service on going. To be honest, it's basically custom printing and in very low quantities and it's not all fun in making them. It's fun having your own USCM ID card though. Hopefully, Darren becuz he works at the airport I believe may still be able to do onesies and twosies. Good luck~!

Funny you should ask I have been messing around with some designs for a while and I have a laminator too!

Did you have a particular design in mind or you gonna give me free hand?

OK I'll crack on then I guess I'll have to post an interest thread in the PX too!

I'm already working on a Press Pass for someone here and I recently came up with a couple of Aliens related versions of the Vietnam War MACV "Get Out Of Jail Free" Card.

Some questions for user input

Would you like room for a mugshot? Or just text and logos?

Would you prefer a credit card size wallet/pocket type ID or one with provision to be worn on a dog tag chain and/or pocket hanger?

Post subject:  Re: USCM I.D. Cards

To be most like standard military ID, I would suggest credit card sized with room for photo.

Post subject:  Re: USCM I.D. Cards

I have a box of Laminating pouches which are labelled as "Military ID" and have a slot and 2 holes on the long edge for Pocket hanger and Dog Tag Chain which are only slightly larger than a standard credit card.

I don't know whether those are a foreign Military ID item or whether it's just some company's interpretation but certainly all British Military ID is credit card size, printed PVC cards.

If we need to display it we simply slide it into a standard credit card size ID holder which contains the slot and holes.
In fact I think they now come issued with a clear plastic holder.

I have seen photographs of US military ID which was also credit card size (but portrait orientation) and included a SIM chip.

I agree with WDI's input, and we could pouch it for hanging around the neck. I would say definately on the mug shot.

The "jail house photo" makes it look legit.

So tell me, no one ever answered my question about beans for breakfast...what kind of beans??

Sounds good Winch! Definently leave room for a photo!

As for Beans for Breakfast Doc, I'm not sure either!

Post subject:  Re: USCM I.D. Cards

I've presumably missed something on the "Beans for breakfast" front as I've no idea what we're talking about...

...but you can't have a good forces fry-up without baked beans...and sausages, bacon, hash browns, fried bread, plumb tomatoes, mushrooms and black pudding. Yumm, yum, yum!!!

Post subject:  Re: USCM I.D. Cards

Yeah I missed that about beans too!

And you forgot the Eggs! ;-) Fried or Scrambled! :P

Post subject:  Re: USCM I.D. Cards

You know, I was looking at my post thinking that there was something missing!!!!

Absolutely...fried eggs too...
Not scrambled. The scrambled eggs are always crap.

The only problem is that the MOD plate is too small... at least in the Sgt's mess noone minds if I go for seconds...but with so many places going "pay as you dine" breaky is getting expensive :(
I miss my £1.12 all you can eat special... I'm sometimes forced to pay almost £2 for a big platefull.

In New Haven Connecticut, , there is a Pub called 'Anna Liffe's" that is authentic. I took a collegue of mine who is a FLight Officer from the RAF who, at the time was here on exchange duty. I had a "Proper English Fry-up breakfast"...the only thing missing was the beans. Fried eggs, Tomatoes, Bangers, blood puting, potatoes, and I believe a couple of rashers of bacon, my God it was good. The Lt, said it wa "spot-on". Last May while travelling back from Germany, I ate at "The Bridge Eating house in Heathrow. I had the same meal, and the beans were green, but tasted like Boston Baked Beans. I should have asked my server what kind of beans they were. One of my favorites is "Bangers and Mash" with a couple of Pints of "Double Diamond" :) . REAL Fish n' Chips is also hard to find here.

Scrambled eggs are an art when they're good they're very good but if they're crap they are really crap and bulk catering it is impossible to do good scrambled eggs!

I must admit I always made the most of the All You Can Eat Breakfasts in American hotels! Especially the made to order Omlettes in the Hyatt Regency in San Antonio but that was many moons ago!

I think perhaps this should be split off into a separate thread so we can stay on topic of ID Cards here! ;)

Typically when speaking about laminate and laminate machines, it's one of those lower cost ways of doing ID cards like student ID's, etc.

The type both Darren and I made were the kind like credit cards or fancier club ID cards.

If someone does make them, the first preference would be the hard plastic base card with full color printing onto then clear layer to seal it, instead of the heat shrink type film covering a paper print. This is exactly why I stop making them, because outfits that make those cards typically likes to do batches of hundreds if not thousands. When you ask them to make 25 cards they tend to laugh and send you out the door. I had to twist arms and beg to get my batch done, and one time of that experience was enough.

If you didn't mind and that's all the equipment can do then it serves the purpose.

These were mine & Darren's for reference:

i bloody hate pay as you starve i err mean dine
luckily all the bases i ended up on havent been like that lol (good ol pirbright)
o me pay as you dine is silly the army is supposed to feed, clothe and shelter you so i refuse to pay for my food, they dont even just dock it from your pay which is silly as i dont have alot of money on me most the time
and yes mod plates are too small, but its handy knowing the cook :P

ok rant over about mod breakie which is good even if its not egg :P just dont ask what it is

as for id cards defo with the credit card sized with mug shot etc, as for id holders i never got one with my army id so i dont know what kind of holders you have

Yes, Pribright is one of the better all ranks messes.

There was a time when alot of stations wanted us to display ID at all times; we certainly did all the time at Cranwell so we would aquire these from the guardroom.

Simply slide the card into it and either clip on a lanyard or a pocket clip.

They also come in portrait format for US style ID cards:

Now however new RAF MOD90's come issued with one of these lovely enclosed holders:

WDI - Do you have any sources for more of those holders? I've been using the one that came with my USCM I.D. for protecting my actual military I.D. card. It's FANTASTIC, but the little nub that puts tension on the card to hold it in is cracking and probably isn't long for this world.

And Doc - I'll have mine at D*Con, so I'll be happy to show it to you there if you'd like to see one up close.

Post subject:  Re: USCM I.D. Cards

I like the Portrait size and Format WDI has shown. The plastic carrier is very simalar to the style we use at SIKORSKY. Fully encloses the card, and there is a lift tab at the back the jacks the card verticaly so it can be swiped at card readers for acsess, time keeping, ETC. Looks realy legit...almost TOO legit.
I might be able to aquire the carriers from security; completely above board, or , Ill just source them out, and/or place an order when they restock. We have over 7500 people at the 'mother ship" (main plant) as well as all our satillite facilities that are in close proximity., so some one is alway needing replacement. About the beans ,and fry-up....
