The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Okay, I haven't committed to this costume yet, but, just for grins...what are the basic components of wear? In other words, what do I need to buy in order to 'fit it'?

So far, I see BDUs, boots, helmet (camera or not?), body armor (including shins), and the M41A Pulse Rifle.

What else is 'required' as opposed to 'optional'? Sidearm? Grenades? Shoulder-spot?

Mate, NOTHING is required. We're equal opportunity Marines. :)

You'd be just as welcomed in BDU's with patches as you would with a full kit. You just need to decide how much of a full kit you want. If you come to a convention to "troop" bout with everyone, more kit is better, but nobody would turn you away. We're special like that. ;)

As far as additional equipment to the ones you mentioned, yes, shoulder lamp and grenades. After that, a sidearm.
Possibly a knife.

You could even do something as simple as a flight suit with a few patches.
Or maybe even go as an android.

Well, I guess I need to get crackin', then. Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'm going to go the basic 'combat-ready', and then I can go overboard on the extras later.

I prefer the term "Synthetic Person" myself...

If you want to be part of the cool kids, you need grenades... LOTS of grenades.

Like DSB said, dropship pilot, or else simple BDU... get creative and put together a service uniform. No absolute need to have armour to be a marine.

Many awesome things about the USCM gear....

1) You can build it up without looking like your half dressed.
(BDU's, then armor, then weapons, then accessories)
2) Equal opportunity marines
Awesome bunch of guys and gals
3) Lots of variations and weapons to choose from
4) Everyone looks the same at a con after about midnight (blurred and tall)

Looks like the most expensive piece (and of course, the one I want the MOST) is the pulse rifle. Not sure I can afford a $500+ prop right now. It's very confusing sifting through the airsoft kits, add-on kits, resin build-ups, counter displays, and such. What a headache! :)

www.m41a.com/ should help you with info on the beloved m41a

And a solid resin Spulse Rifle (yes, spelt right) from Spat is a damn fine option if you can't stretch to a full airsoft or Matsucorp. I have one myself. Head over to the Spatcave
