The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Looks good, my only suggestion is the type should be bigger.

They are bottom up so you can always fill it up with Snap Caps.

Yet another idea to steal and a project to start. At least this one seems to be quite a bit more manageable on the old wallet! :P

quick question for anyone 'in the know' The case in that link is for 20 gauge shells

Was that link chosen simply because the box was red in the picture (like the real prop) or is there a reason the 20 is preferable to a 12?

With some deep research the grenades in the movie are 12 gauge blank that were turned/modified. A lot of people think it's 20 gauge as the grande size is referred as 30mm (no were near 12 gauge size) a fact just "ignored " by the prop makers :). Oh and if you look at the prop in harry harris collection it is the 12 gauge box in forest green and then painted

Apparently, the screen-used box (or boxes) was an MTM Case Gard S25: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2065

You can buy a red one here: http://www.guns.gb.com/contents/en-uk/d ... boxes.html

Well, the S-25 comes in 2 varieties. The S25-20 and the S25-12. Still comes around to the 20 gauge vs 12 gauge box.

BUT I think it truly is the 20. Yes, 12 gauge shotgun used had grenades made from some type of snap cap, but I read up on the 20 gauge box and the specs do say it can hold 12 gauge shells (it is just a little snugger fit). Looking at the pic of the screen used box, besides the red color, look at the bottom 'lip' on the clasp.

The screen used prop and 20g versions have the 2 'prongs' on the bottom lip. The 12 gauge box (S25-12) has a wider clasp area and only the one center 'prong' area on the bottom. The 20g looks like a better match to me. I'll update when I get mine in hand.

FYI/alert!

The website that said the 20g box could hold 12g shells lied! The 20 is too small for 12g shells and SD grenades. They don't fit.

Even if the clasp/color on the 20 were more accurate, if you plan on actually keeping grenades in there you actually probably are better off with the 12 version

Messing around with this old project. Figured I'd bump this old thread. (for 'found item' purposes. 'replica purposes' are as fine as they will get)

In short, while the modern plastic shotshell boxes are affordable and easy to find, they are not likely correct. (at least not the MTM "Case-gard" series).

The 20g and 12g each have screen accurate aspects, but neither is a dead on match (at least not in their modern form).

Basically:
-The 12g modern could never be 'correct' because the ridge on the top is right on the edge, the top half is too tall, and the bottom portion of the clasp has no indentations. All 3 are not screen accurate.
-The 20g has the right offset on the 'ridge' around the top, has the screen accurate clasp indentation, is red like the screen used prop, but is clearly too small and can't hold the snap caps of the 12g 870 that was used. Proportions are clearly all off.

So 80s plastic shotshell boxes (same brand in earlier version or completely different brand)... Anyone have them?
